Our main idea was to replicate that console/computer terminal for Animate 11!. Our budget was around 200 dollars.

Animate 11! is the biggest CON in Argentina that celebrates every year. Organization assigned us a 3meterx2meter stand, so decided to bring up something special. We divided the project in two parts: the computer terminal and the R2-D2 unit. Each team managed a budget and different resources.

1-Computer Terminal:
We started designing the console:

Gerardo and Christian built from scratch the computer terminal frame:

Most of the front console parts, were laser cut:

Later, we installed the electronics to light up the computer terminal. We even got an old CRT 14" monitor:

After that, we painted the frame and installed all the accessories:

This is the computer terminal finished:

Here you will find the complete making-of album:

and the first video we shot:

A notebook was inside playing the animation that was finally created by Jose Hermosa.

2-R2-D2 Unit:
This was done using pepakura method and a lot of imagination:

And tada...this is how all this finally look assembled:

I would like to thank each Cruz del Sur Base member that collaborated with this working directly on the prop, or funding us.

Team A
Gerardo Palacios
Christian Tovar
Diego Arevalo

Team B
Kevin Cohen
Jose Hermosa
Victor Teran

and all wives, parents and girlfriends that supported us. Hope this helps and encourage other bases to do the same. We still have a lot of details to improve or finish, but will be doing them during next year. May the Force be with us!

Very, very impressive work!

Is the R2 dome also made with the pepakura method?
(btw, the R2 unit looks great on the pics!)

Well done, and very inspiring!

Thanks guys! Yes, even non-SW fans yelled Artooo!!! and took some photos. Only hardcore SW fans recognized the computer terminal scene. And the Mate Ismael is talking about it is very popular among Argentine people. It is like a tea. Unfortunately I don't drink it, cause I don't like it.

Okay that's pretty awesome! Just goes to show you that there are a lot of diffferent types of large props to create.
