The dust has settled from the date change, and Planet Comicon 2011 will be held on Sat. March 24 and Sun. March 25, as always at the Overland Park International Trade Center.
http://www.planetcomicon.com/

The Star Wars guests announced include Billy Dee Williams, Jake Lloyd, Adrienne Wilkinson, and Felix Silla.

Change in entry and exit from the convention
This year's convention is huge. The entire room will be utilized - no more blue curtain, back stage area - meaning that the old way of coming and going through the back door is now changed. We will be allowed to bring our costumes in the back glass door we usually use before the convention starts provided that you have your badge with you (see below). Security is being increased as well since Billy Dee Williams's table is right by that old exit door we all used. That door must remain closed during all convention hours and we will not be able to use it as we have in the past. We may be able to use the doors at the opposite end of that north wall to a some degree, but we will have to limit that use if, particularly if the weather is cold or bad or if it is too disruptive to the guests at surrounding tables. If you need to go to your car during the convention, it would be best to plan on using the main lobby doors. Thanks for your understanding about this necessary change.

Advance ticket sales
If you already ordered your tickets online or have a ticket to redeem at the registration desk, the best time to redeem these is Friday night, March 23rd between 4pm and 7:30 p.m. or on Saturday morning, March 24th from 7:30-9:30 a.m. The Star Wars coodrinator from the 501st will be in the lobby at a separate registration area on the fixed wooden desk across from the main entrance doors. A portion of that desk will be just for check-in of Star Wars costumers. If you cannot come pick up your tickets Friday night or before the con on Saturday, you can always go to Will Call during convention hours if you have prepaid and are on the pre-registration list and/or have a physical ticket from a comic book store. We can make sure you get taken care of.

Ticket sales for those still needing to purchase
Prices - $15 for an adult weekend pass and $5 for kids age 7-14 (costumers will receive a badge and their family members will receive a wristband). They are giving the costumers the advance ticket price and we really appreciate that savings. Please make sure that you bring cash only and exact change please. If you are going to be later than that time slot on Saturday morning, please contact your Star Wars costuming group leader and either send money with them to get your ticket for you, or let them know when you will be arriving so that we can make sure you are taken care of.

Changing room
The usual changing area from the past has been made larger and there should not be the tables and chairs taking up the space like in the past. It is now expanded to 15' x 30' and will be labeled Storage (so that fans will not peek inside out of curiosity). Chris has stated that he is instructing the building staff to not stack all of the extra tables and chairs in there. There are more and more costumers attending this convention each year so be sure to share the space with all. Now with the entire convention room being utilized, there won't be security watching our stuff back there so be mindful of that and plan accordingly. We may want to ask for volunteers to keep an eye on that area throughout the convention.

Star Wars costuming group presentation
Chris has scheduled us to present information about our Star Wars costuming groups in the Atrium (glass room to the left of the lobby) from 11-11:50 on Saturday morning. This is just before Billy Dee Williams's presentation so we should have a nice crowd. The groups will present in this order: 501st Legion, Rebel Legion, Mando Mercs, and The Dark Empire.

Group Dinner Saturday Night
Fan Group BBQ Dinner Saturday night. See link for details.

Rebel Legion Photo Shoot
Please gather at the Main (attrium) stage at 10 AM on Sunday. We will take the whole legion shots there, and with any members of the public that are interested, until 10:50. We'll then move back into the main hall and do smaller detachment level shots at our backdrop.

Table Duty
We don't have a set schedule, but please try to take a turn manning the table. It's a great way to recruit and get to know people. We'll have a nice setup of information and display pieces.

We're also helping host a silent auction of some of Darryl Woods' art to benefit the Johnson County Arts Council, so we'll need to make sure someone is around to help facilitate that. And, the Action Nerds Go podcast folks will be hanging out near is so you'll have them to entertain you as well.

Induction of Adrienne Wilkinson as an honorary member of Rebel Legion.
Time TBD

Stan Sakai, of Usagi Yojimbo fame, will be there! Well, I have never been to Comicon before, but this will bring me to the event!

My attendance all depends on my job situation... If I get the job I just applied for, I'll be working Saturdays. If I don't, hopefully I get the job at Stages again and if that starts the Monday after, I plan to get over there Very Happy

I will definately be at PCC. I know there was talk of making sure all the Star Wars groups tables were together, but we usually are close. I'll be at the Mercs table more than 50% of the time. But I do plan on trooping in my Rebel some; I could try Kel Dor Rebel Commando but I think most kids would be confused why Plo Koon was in camoflage. Also I can help at the table as needed.

Do we have an idea of group photos?
I think the Mando Mercs are going for Saturday afternoon, which is kind of our standard the last few years. Rich are you still thinking Sunday morning for RL photos?

That seems to be the standard from the past, but more than willing to open up to suggestions for when is the best time. I know we do not want to overlap with the 501st or Mercs obviously and there is a possibility of missing folks either day. I do think we would be more apt to get the most folks on Saturday, but with the short hours of the con and the other group photos it doesn't allow for much.

The calculus behing doing it Sunday morning is that with so many folks with duplicate/triplicate memberships, we lose less people from missing the folks that can't stay 'til Sunday than we do people who are going to choose to participate Sat. with 501st and Mercs shoots instead. *If we could get more people to chose RL over those two* on Sat, we'd definitely have a bigger pool of folks in attendence. At least Sun morning, some people that can't stay all day can stick around for an hour or two in the morning.

One other thing I will say for it... There's not a lot going on there early Sun. morning, so we kind of become the big draw when we do our shoot, vs. having to fight for space on Saturday. Last year we did it right out in the corner stage instead off off behind the curtain (where the groups have to do it on Sat, due to the floor being packed). We had a better spot for pictures, and became quite the draw for folks to stop and take pictures with us since were were the biggest thing happening at 10 AM on a Sunday Smile

There are now two confirmed Star Wars media guests:
Jake Lloyd (young Anakin) and Adrienne Wilkinson (The Force Unleashed and Clone Wars)

Jake is already an Honorary Member of RL, but I'm looking into getting it approved to induct Adrienne while she's here (she IS a Missouri native too). IIRC, that will run maybe $40-50 dollars for the induction kit. I'd also like to get all HMs (new and old) a RL shirt of some kind, be it a base shirt if available (I may have one for Jake at least) or the upcoming Ackbar RL shirt if nothing else, but that's more money. Also, the cost of the table space has gone up this year to $90 for single space (and only one 'included' badge for the table-runner, all others have to pay the 'group discount' admission rate). SO... I would greatly appreciate if anyone would like to help out with the groups costs to let me know, as I simply cannot shoulder all of that right now... I think we can put on our best show yet this year, but it's not free Smile

I just sent you (and some others that offered) a message, the HM kit is $65 now... Anyway, I'm hoping one or two will agree to cover that while Sarah and I cover the table, then we'll see what the situation with shirts is once those are all cleared Smile

I saw that Billy Dee has a panel at noon Saturday. Is someone going to check to see if General Calrissian or any of the others would like an Alliance escort?

Offers and invitations of various sorts are being sent to the powers that be; we'll see what happens.
