Wayne gave me a heads up to this section, so I wanted to share some info on the Rebel Troop Carrier we built last year for Star Wars Celebration V.

The R2 Builders Club was looking to have a Hoth Base theme for the droid room. While looking for something cool to build to fit, we noticed a very obscure vehicle cruising through Echo Base: The Troop Carrier.

The troop carrier can be seen in most of the Echo Base scenes in ESB, as well as one scene in ROTJ. You can see (and hear) the vehicle at the 18 sec point of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOGcrqrVHX0

Because of the relative obscurity of the prop, we had to start from scratch: taking our own screen grabs and determining dimensions from there. The final prop is 12 feet long, six feet wide. The cart was built with over 220 individual pieces of cabinet-grade plywood cut on a CNC router table. It's fully mobile thanks to the Taylor Dunn utility cart that it is built on and has a range ~22 miles. It has front, rear, and interior lights as well as a four speaker stereo system with CD and iPod input.

After we got back from Celebration V, we took the Troop Carrier in for a photo shoot. (Photos by Christian Dohn)

Inspiring job. I saw it at the Artoo Builder's room but didn't realize it was mobile. Very cool.

Yeah, that thing was awesome. You guys did an awesome job. It's not easy to tell, but there are two cameras on that thing that have a live feed to monitors inside the dash. My kids LOVED that fact! Rolling Eyes

Would you be willing to share dimensions, plans, etc. for some of our bases to try their hand at them? They'd be great for local parades.

We don't have a clean set of prints, but if someone was seriously looking to build, I can dig some stuff up.

Given the cost (many many thousands), we might just want to sell to an interested group rather than them going through the months of construction. Might as well put it to good use out there! Smile
