...but my progress towards a Rebel Pilot has not! Over the last few weeks I've finally got my helmet kit starting to come together.

Eventually I hope to be the first one in the Legion to do the helmet for... Tiree! (Gold 2 at Yavin for those who don't know) I think I make a pretty good stand-in:

How in the universe did I miss this thread? That is an AWESOME project you've started dude. And Y-wings have a special place in my heart.

When the special editions came out the Target down the street from my house was flooded with Star Wars toys, but I largely ignored them because I hadn't seen more than bits and pieces of the films and was into other things. But one day I found the Action Fleet Y-Wing fighter misplaced in the Lego isle, and the design so captivated me that I brought it home. Within hours it was my favorite toy.

To this day, that little ship holds a special place in my collection among sideshow figures, fx sabers, and costume replicas, as the very first piece of Star Wars merchandise I ever owned.

So on with your Y-Wing pilot build, my friend! I am behind this project 100%!

Tag,
You should start your own pilot build. Tiree needs a wingman.

Well, if I do get around to another costume after my Jedi is done, it will be Captain Antilles. A pilot costume would just be insanely expensive for me. And (don't hate me!), I just don't like the color orange!

But I fully support this build! I will do my piloting either as a Jedi general or vicariously through Kievan! Very Happy

So what parts have you started dude? What's left to be done before you can start flying me around? Very Happy

Haven't you guys seen the movie? Gold Squadron flew single-seater Y-Wings. Razz

Right now it's only the helmet I'm working on, though I've got some supplies for the flack vest. I have a gray jumpsuit already (and jackboots), but if I'm going to do a proper Tiree I'll need an orange one. And silver ejection straps. If anybody's got any local sources I'm happy to know about them.

* nerd voice * Well of course I know that silly! But if you can fly the one you can fly the other! Razz

Darthair on the RL boards can help. I believe he's from the Mountain Garrison.

So I've mostly assembled my helmet, except for some custom visor retraction mechanisms I plan on implementing. It's a helmet from Mark Bradley so it didn't come with that as part of the kit like a Richie's or a MonCal, but that's okay because I got it for a lot less.

Right now I'm thinking pretty hard about who I want to buy my decals from. I've discovered that Bradley helmets are smaller than RA or MonCal's, and that decal proportions come into play, so if I can't find what I like I'm debating if I want to paint my symbols on since my wife's an art major and we have a ton of paint.

So my question for all the pilots in the Base is: Which helmet maker did you buy from, and where did you get your labels? Let it be known that I've been scoping out your profile pics to find out what looks good. If any of you have good close up pics of your helmets I'd be interested in seeing those too.

Thanks for your feedback Smile

Darthair is who I got my decals from, and I have one of Mark Bradley's helmets. To me his Decal sizes are fine.

So I got a set of decals from Darthhair, and boy is he great to work with. I'm very pleased with his decals -- most of them are sized perfectly for Mark Bradley's helmets, though I personally think the 'sliced onions' are a bit small for use on a mohawk, though they'd work great on the ears.
