Twitch,

your blaster went on it´s way today, with a lot of luck you might receive it tomorrow already, depending on postal service speed. Smile

Got the buckles today (finally).
Now I need leather, heavy stuff. And I have no idea where to get it.
Can anybody point me in the right direction? Mind you, not living in the US.

Yeah, forgot to add that.
I live in Germany, which is why Lichtbringer could help me with the blaster.

On that note, where can I find the measurements for the blaster belt?
I want to get the pouches right.
Pouches...
What are those boxes Solo carries in them anyway?

Here is the Han Solo FAQ that should cover many of your questions... There are a few Builds that should help for the holster in the Fringe Turorial section ... many comments about pouch sizes I believe, you just need to dig a bit for it.

UK is good. I got my helmet from there, and it wouldn't have to go through customs.
Tandy... I think I read something about that in one of the other Solo builds...

Yeah, found it.
The leather belt blanks look good.
Now, my buckles need 2.25 inch belts, and they sell only 2 or 2.5 inch blanks.
Would it be better to get the bigger size and trim the leather, or should I get the smaller size?
Then again, trimming the leather is not that hard, I got a nylon belt in the right size that I can use as a template.

Now, the leather itself.
No idea what those measurements mean. I'm used to the metric system, and never heard of "oz" before. Now, I can read between the lines, and guess it has something to do with density and how thick the leather is.
Any advise on what kind of leather works best?

The biggger the oz the thicker the leather.... so gloves may be a one oz were a holster of quality will be somewhere between 8-10. The pouches can be a smaller oz so they can be worked easier... maybe around a 5..... really up to you. I would send them a bunch of pics and ask them what they think was used if you are unsure.

Since you're buying leather anyways, I wouldn't even bother with a belt blank. Just buy enough to cover the belt and holster and get a strap cutter, Tandy # 3080-00. You just cut a straight edge on the leather first (and Tandy will do it for you before shipping it out if you ask) and just set the tool to anything under 4 inches and it will make a perfectly straight cut for you.

You can also use the tool to cut the leg strap and hold down strap for the blaster...

Well, I trust my own ability to use a large ruler and a writing tool to make straight lines.
Also, I might not need to buy at Tandy.
Next week's an event where a leather merchant is attending.
I myself can't go, but I can ask my friends who are going, if they can pick up some leather for me.
Scored enough for a few belts and holsters in a medium to dark grey last year, for a third of what Tandy wants.
That cutting tool though sounds very interesting.

I have that cutter and a few others.... The one cutter I have I can cut up to any size up to 5 inches wide... any length. Having the right tools for any job... makes the difference!

Hi Twitch,

I've heard all about the drama with your buckles...glad you got them finally.

I can definitely help you out with sizing, spacing etc. of pouches on the belt. There are a couple of ways to work it. Shoot me a PM and we'll talk.

Good Luck with your build!!

Brian

Today I got a note from Customs.
The buckles the manufacturer and I thought lost in the postal system arrived.
Only a week later than the express sent ones.
Is it okay if I laugh?
