I made a better/lighter arm extention.

They worked great.

Items:
2-5 gallon paint sticks. 4-total...2 for each arm.
neoprene gloves.
elastic.

Basically glue 2 paint sticks together and paint black.

Add foam to the inside fingers and hand part of the gloves and tape hands onto the sticks.

Add elastic in three places. Upper arm...mid-arm...and middle finger.

You can shake hands and high five all day long. (just can't hold anything i.e. bowcaster)

As you can see they work great.

My first instinct (for safety reasons) is to say... its just a bad idea. However you seem to have pulled it off... well done!

Just be carefull out there!

Looks cool, man. I saw your post on the RPF. It looks like they will break away in the event of a fall, which is better than building them hell for stout and having them injure your arms.

There are a number of tutorials out there on articulated mechanical hands.

I had a similar idea, but the only 2 things I found to not work is: the elbow joint does not bend lower with the arm extensions, so it looks like really long forearms and short upper arm when you bend the arms. The arms are bending at your own joint and the false arms are much longer than where the joint would be with arms that long. The other thing is people love to really hug and interact with Chewie. I think it would hinder my true interaction with the kids and adults. You should try not using the arm extensions and still keep the long hair sleeves. You really dont see the hands anyway. I do that and I interact great, shake hands, hi five and hug just fine. You get the same correct long arm effect. Best of both...just my opinion..

I had no problems interacting with people. Very Happy

If you notice in the picture of the extension. It is only 7'' from the tip of my middle finger on my hand to the tip of the middle finger of the extension hand.

With the height of my costume the arms balanced out nicely.

I did the elastic so if I fall the elastic will give.

The only downside is that I can't hold a Bowcaster but nobody even cared if I had one.

I don't like to carry my bowcaster anyway. The only people that ask about it are other Rebel Legion members.

So true!

I have been trooping for a few years now as Chewie... and I can say... it never comes up. I used it on my first troop... never again.

The bowcaster only gets in the way of hugs and headlocks. Besides, I'm pretty sure Chewie did more damage with his fists than any other weapon.

That's so funny because if I don't have it, it's the first thing people ask about. "Where's your bowcaster? That thing's so cool!"

I almost never troop with mine, but it's more of a size problem than a weight problem. The stinking thing is just so WIDE that I end up clonking into stuff or people every time I turn around. Laughing

Signed my first autographs today. Dance Chewie

I wasn't sure I would be able to with the arm extentions. I held the pen where my real hand was (7'' above the fake hand).

Looked a little weird signing with my arm. Laughing Nobody seemed to care. Very Happy
