MISSION REPORT FILED:

The Rebellion:

The Empire:

Though ever outnumbered, members of Nar Shaddaa Base joined the Midwest Garrison at our annual "4 Mile Death March" aka The Bartlett 4th of July Parade. This was the 9th year we participated in this parade and usually the parade is a real "character builder" as it is one really hot parade. This year temperatures were a little more moderate, and we were practically at the front of the Parade. Due to a snafu, our parade application was lost, but the organizers actually contacted US to make sure that we would be there as they said that the Parade itself would not be the same if we were not there.

I usually walk the Parade and have someone else drive my Jeep - aka the Rebel Medical Frigate-as it is equipped with hydration and emergency supplies and serves as a place to ride out the rest of the parade if anyone gets overheated or has a costume malfunction. This year I had to drive my Frigate as I could not get a driver.

After the Parade, we have a pic nic lunch and this year the cooking was done by the Rebellion as two of our Rebels stayed at Base Camp to do the cooking...we missed Robert and Crix (two of our Outlaw Sqaudron members) in the parade as they were playing the role of chef and sous chef. We missed them!

At the picnic - Crix received a special award as the parade marked his 100th Troop. He received one of the "holy grails" of patches for his patch collection, a special armband....and...a Medal of Yavin made by NSB member Robert Kohn.

We also welcomed RFT Saya Endo to her first troop with us ever!
And we also welcomed new member obejuan and soon to be new member/Clone Rudy Grasha

Next year for the 10th Anniversary of the Parade many special things are planned...time to hire out chefs so our Rebels can make it!

Thanks to all our NSB members present:

Goldendragon- chef
Crix - sous chef
Iam8114 - Wedge Antilles - Hoth Snowspeeder Pilot
Saya Endo - RFT
Jack Killian - X-Wing Pilot
Destiny Frost - Bespin Leia
Daisy5 - RFT
Chris - Captain Rex
obejuan - Clone
Augie -RFT
Schph Gochi - RFT
Motek1973

And forgot to mention that one of our MWG members has a Bluesmobile that we snuck in the parade line up behind me at the last minute...too much fun!

My fellow restoration volunteer and butterfly monitor Sally Wieclaw asks us each year to come to this event and many of the folks who come to this relay do look forward to us being there. Sally has lost 2 sisters to cancer and has a third sister who is fighting cancer.

Relay for Life is a time to rememer those lost to cancer and those fighting. For us at the Midwest Garrison, this Relay has special meaning as it is a time to remember 3 very special heros we have encontered in our trooping efforts.

Those 3 tiny heros were represented in the Luminaria Ceremony with small bags that contained a light....a light that I hope we always remember...and their photos were also part of the on-screen tribute.

Thanks to River for purchasing Max and Vincent's Luminaria, I purchased Isaac's.
Thanks to Steve for also doing a little fundraising for the team. $115.00 was contributed by our group. The event so far has raised a total of $73,653.00 and we logged 27 hours as a group.

My most sincere thanks to all who came out. This troop is, for me, a most important time to remember.

Thanks to our particpants:

Pat - SL6312 - Darth Vader
Steve - ID3052 - Officer
Crix - SL4913 - Crix Madine
Matt - TK8148 - Stormtrooper
Jess - 8238 - Juno Eclipse
Cheryl - TB3127 - Biker Scout
Ashley - Endor Commando
Tara - Rebel Fleet Trooper
Me - IG1951 - Gunner

May the Force be with you .....always!

Cyphan 7-30-11

The Rebellion joins in on the "Meet The" panel

Andrew shows off the "new orange"

Crix surprised us all by not being in a SW costume all day...

And...
our hopefully soon to be Han Solo Brian:

Cheryl wore her Jedi and took some new photos in anticipation of re-judging coming up (and I am going to make my TK into one like Hyper's on Cheryls left....lol...)

Jim was there in his Snowspeeder...
but I guess I goofed and didn't get a photo of him...shame on me...
I usually like to get photos of all the Rebels.

And..
the Joliet Library gave each of us a copy of the posters they made from the photos they took of us in front of a green screen at the event we did at the Library in April...

those green screen photos were put into a poster to encourage people (esp. kids) to read....these posters will be put up throughout the Library.

Yesterday NSB members Dee, Eric, Destiny and I joined the Midwest Garrison at the "Peds In The Weeds" a pic nic at a Forest Preserve in Morton Grove.

This pic nic is for pediatric patients of Luthern General Hospital and their families. It is put on each year by the hospital and is provided free of charge thanks to donations from local businesses and volunteers.

There is plenty for the kids to do. A storm that came through right before the event kept the crowds down at first, but things did quickly pick up after the storm was done. However, when the sun came out it was, indeed very hot and humid.

Rebels participating:

Dee- Ceremonial Leia
Eric - Anakin Skywalker
Destiny - Snowbunny Padme
Schph Gochi - X-Wing Pilot

A good time was had by all!

On Friday 8-19-11 members of Nar Shaddaa Base and the Midwest Garrison went to Hope Children's Hospital to pass out toys that were collected by our groups, and by several other groups. These toys were collected in honor of Natalie Ann Siemek. Both NSB and the MWG conducted toy drives at Cyphan and at Wizard World.

Natalie was born 11/15/2005 with a rare heart defect. Hypo Plastic Right Heart Syndrom was her diagnosis. With the love of her family and the amazing doctors and nurses at Hope, Natalie's life of 15 months was a gift to all who met her.

In honor of Natalie, The Siemek family has had 4 toy drives to benefit Hope's children. The last toy drive was dropped off March 5th with a total of 236 beautiful new gifts. These are handed out to the admitted children by the Child Life Development Staff. These toys help children that are there for long periods of time or during special events like birthdays.

In attendance from our Base was
Augie Webster- RFT
Whinter Fenlyn - Undercover in Medi Scout
Artoo - my R2D2
Schph Gochi - Jedi

For reasons of privacy for the patients...we didn't take photos of the kids up on the floors.

Me and Natalie's dad:

The Empire and the Rebellion joined forces for the release of the Star Wars movies on Blu Ray...

The true Star Wars fans were out - both in costume and as customers.
I think we RL and 501st members bought as many as the public did...
lol..
I bought the set...but don't even have a Blu Ray player....

Some of us were interested in more than SW

My Artoo watches as the "star of the show" comes out -I hope to get my hands on one of those displays as the Princess Leia in the photos works for Walmart...

Well, got home with enough time to unload my Artoo Deetoo and change and go to work...

Very Happy

Technically not a Nar Shaddaa Base event..
but Darryl and I were at the Midwest R2 Builders gathering on Saturday at the Indiana Dunes State Park.

The weather was great
the park was great
the Droids were great..

and..
we had a number of "visitors" stop by to see what was going on..

One of the other builders did take a stop action video of the day...

it is here on the holonet:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzvrjMngO1I

Artoo is all the way on the right..
well..
lol..
he was the only actual R2 there...
and..
I skillfully dodged the camera..

Very Happy

Members of Nar Shaddaa Base joined the Midwest Garrison at US Cellular Field (Home of the Chicago White Sox) on 9-24-11 for Star Wars night/Stand Up Against Cancer.

We were on hand to meet and greet before the game, participated in a parade around the field before the game, roamed the concourse during the game, and participated in a couple "special events".

I would like to think we were good luck as the White Sox won the game AND hit some home runs so we got to see some fireworks and the scoreboard go off.

The Sox fans seem VERY enthusiastic to see us...and we are hoping to be invited back next year.

Participants:

Kim W. - Endor Commando
Augie W - RFT
Eric P - Anakin Skywalker
Jess H - Juno Eclipse
R2-D2 - Kevin's Astromech
Darcy J - Jedi Padawan
Schph Gochi - Pilot

We also had some NSB members "undercover"

I hope I don't forget anyone:

Cheryl W.
Janine J.
Chris S

Make sure to look at the last photo!
Very Happy

As always....the Rebellion was extremely outnumbered...
but..
as always...
never tell us the odds:
