Hi Everybody -

I'm still in recovery mode from this year's Phoenix Comicon...catching up on sleep and trying to stay off my sore feet. But I wanted to start this appreciation post for the event with my own stream-of-conscious thanks and hope that you can all make a few comments on what you liked about PCC 2011 and also post some of your photos!

It was great to see so many Mos Eisley Base members come out and do table time and just spend time hanging out together. I’m also happy so many members made it out to our “Meet the Mos Eisley” panel on Friday night! It wasn’t the most attended panel (Friday night at 6 might not be the best time to do this), but we got a lot of great Q&A and several people seemed really interested in what we do and may be joining up!

The spirit of cooperation between the Star Wars groups (RL/501st/Mando Mercs/R2 Builders) continues to be a source of happiness to me. I had multiple folks from around the country tell me that they were envious of our camaraderie and wished their own clubs could be more like ours! Good job everybody!

We had a terrific turnout for this year’s Rebel Legion Breakfast at First Watch…I think we’ve found an even better place for the Breakfast next year and it’s literally right across the street from the Hyatt Regency.

It was especially nice to see RL members Jeff (Crash) from Mountain Base and Jill (Wraith) from Rogue Base! As well as Steve and Ashley from Illinois! Tell your friends what a good time you had at our convention and see if you can’t drag them out with you next year…because I know you’re going to want to come back!

Congrats on the job that the Dune Sea Garrison did on raising funds for Kids Need to Read, making over $2000 in raffles, auctions, and photo booth opportunities! We did our part as well, helping to raise funds for KNTR through the Smuggler's Run.

Special kudos to Jen and Lee Palmer for leading all of the groups and making sure everything ran smoothly!

Thanks to Steve (Hammer) for doing so much printing for us and all of the groups!

The pavilion “museum” was fabulous! The display of costumes, helmets, weapons, and collectibles was just terrific…the extra space we had helped to let people flow through the displays and head over to the other areas of the Star Wars Neighborhood. Special thanks to Matt Solberg and Phoenix Comicon for giving us the giant space for this event and a changing/storage room for all of the clubs.

Thanks to everyone who made the presentation of our Honorary Member certificate and 2011 PCC t-shirt to Billy Dee Williams a reality. Sorry I was a bit frantic and rushed once I found that he was sitting ALONE at his autograph table, but his security guard told me Billy Dee might not stay much longer because he was getting restless. But it really turned out wonderfully that we were able to get members over for his presentation…which really was an emotional moment for me. Afterall, how often do you get to honor one of your childhood heroes?

VERY Special Thanks to my fellow MEB members of the Phoenix Comicon Star Wars Neighborhood Committee, Heidi and Carol for coming out to the meetings and all of your input in making our participation in this event better!

I hope everyone had fun… for those who couldn’t make it this year, we missed you and hope that you and all who were there in 2011 will be with us next year!!!

I'm so proud of this base and everything that's been done to promote harmony and cooperation!

Let's keep it up! It's all for the benefit of our charities, and makes things much more fun for us!

Other bases envy us, and now hopefully will learn from us! Let's not forget how lucky we are.

Very Happy

From the Dune Sea Garrison's Lee Palmer:

Jen and I would like to thank all who worked and participated in PCC 2011, we are still waiting on final numbers of participants as well as the final dollar amount we raised for Kids Need to Read. We do know that attendance was over 23,000 and we made over $2000 for KNTR over the weekend. The success of the Star Wars groups is in no small part to each one of you that worked your tails off over the 5 days that PCC ran. Jen and I both received raves from many PCC staff and attendees about the area and ICT. None of it would have been possible without the participation at the booth and at ICT by so many of you. Most of our fundraising efforts were a huge success, although there is some refining that can be done in that area. Overall, each and every one of you should feel nothing but pride in the outcome of PCC11 it was a HUGE undertaking and all of the groups came through in a big way.

We would like to spotlight a few members who went above and beyond in their participation. We will start with Mark Teifert for his dedication in helping set up, tear down and transport most of the PCC materials. Steve “Hammer” Paduano for printing all our PR and fund raising materials. Wayne Spence, who, was there for every single hour to coordinate the raffle and photo booth events. TJ Van Der Werf and Mark Chittenden who pulled ICT together into the success it was. Mike Little from the Rebel Legion who designed our Star Wars Neighborhood badge art. Heidi Van Camp for her work on the PCC Participant patch. Victoria Frias from the Mandalorian Mercs who was always at the Mando booth working. Chris and Amber Jackson for all of their time working the booth and the photo booth. Thomas Arroyo and Andy Romero for the displays they built. Thomas Boyer for building the Mando walls and helping with set up and tear down of the neighborhood. We especially want to thank the troopers from out of town that participated in PCC, they came from New Mexico, Utah and Illinois. Without those troopers PCC would not have been the success it was, they worked the tables, volunteered at ICT and participated in the many panels that were done and just generally added more flair to what we did. We hope they enjoyed participating as much as we enjoyed having them! Everyone seemed to be pleased at how our groups work together to give the fans an experience like no other.

We hope we didn’t forget anyone; everyone did so much over the course of PCC it is hard to keep it all straight. LOL

Again, our sincere thanks to EVERYONE … you did an awesome job!!!

Grampy and I got filmed by Channel 3 in the booth... don't know if they used it or not.

All in all, it looks like the Con got a lot of coverage, and good coverage, too!

Jeff & I had a blast at PCC this year & it was so wonderful hanging out with everyone. I loved it when we would go out to dinner afterwards with everyone just to wind down after the day and enjoy each others company. Everyone from RL, 501st, R2 Builders, and Mando Mercs were all helpful when needed and pretty much acted like a huge family. I am so greatful that our groups get along so well. I'm just surprised that it's not this way elsewhere.
This year my daughter Amanda joined us on Friday! She was there for the RL Panel, took pictures of the ICT for us, and had fun. We are hoping that she will soon be a member. Her and I just submitted our Naboo Maroon Handmaiden costumes. I hope the will be approved very soon!

Yea I think I try and make it back next year. And next time I'll tone down the super hero and help out out more.

Although there is a slight but growing chance that I won't have as far to travel very far to attend next years con. I'll have to see how things go next Friday

cross fingers
