If we have friends that might be interested in joining...this might be a way for them to see we really are "normal" and they need to be a part of our fun.

Are we normal??? Laughing

I'll be there.... might be a bit later b/c I have responsibilities at church, but I'll be there as soon as I can.

As far as what I'll bring, maybe I'll watch for what is lacking or what is requested and see what I need to pick up.

Just wondering if this was still on. I gotta get a room for Saturday night if so. Also do we have a rough head count? My wife is wanting to bake a cake for everyone. Smile

So, who is attending? Let's get a head count and a list of what everyone will be bringing.

Okay question...lol...It has been years since I have been to Stone Moutain. I know..I live like 10 mintues away. Anyway, where in the park is this pinic area. I pulled up a map of thepark online and I don't see the Grist Mill area listed. Do we know what it is around? Also, who is the POC. I might have missed that information in one of the post. I am going to be with Brent about what we are bringing, but we are going to be there.

update to my last post...I found information about Grist Mill Pavilion on their web-site. However, this area is for rental only and requires catering. I am not sure that we can meet there. I see that there are only two public pinic areas. one is by cross roads and one is by the marina.

Here is the link about the Grist mill area.

and the link about the public pinic areas

The Pavilion there (at the Grist Mill) requires rental and catering for mega-bucks. There are a couple of picnic tables near the road that are just "there"... we've gone out there for the office and had a picnic lunch in years past.

The issue with those is that they get "claimed" pretty early (especially on the W/E), and I do not believe there is a grill there. (Actually I am 95% positive there is no grill.)

OTOH the public picnic areas... there are a couple, including a LARGE one near the grass lawn where the Laser Show is held... have grills.

The Grist Mill site is closer to restrooms, but the picnic area site has them w/i walking distance... it's a wee bit of a hike.

That's what I know. Smile

That's a help. It has been years since I have been to Stone Mountain so I was not sure.

Just to reiterate what Allison posted:

There are two public picnic areas: Studdard and Triangle.

Studdard Picnic Area

The Studdard Picnic Area is located across Robert E. Lee Blvd. from the Riverboat Marina Complex and is the largest public picnic area in the Park with over 200 tables. Public use tables are available on a first come, first serve basis. Public use grills are also available to be shared by several groups.

Triangle Picnic Area
The Triangle Picnic Area is located across Robert E. Lee Blvd. from the Antique Car Museum and is the closest public picnic area to the Crossroads area.

I'm thinking the Studdard sounds good to me. What does everyone else think?

Does anyone want to volunteer to secure some picnic tables for all of us?

Yes, Studdard is the big one. Smile

I forgot about the Triangle! It's centrally located with nearby restrooms but lost a lot of tables due to construction.

I might cruise over there after work today and do a bit of recon.

OK... I barely got there before dark, but....

Studdard is the way to go if we are cooking out. I did not realize that Triangle has no grills. Plus (sour grapes) the restroom is farther away than I thought, since they built the new(er) parking lot. That lot took the space of the lower picnic area, where the tables were closer to the restrooms.

Studdard does have some "Comfort Stations" but personally, I'd rather take the short hike over to the real restrooms near the Great Lawn. But for kids, it's good there is something nearby "just in case"....

There are two driveways for Studdard... actually it's a circle... but I'd turn in at the first one, where the sign is, and perhaps drive in a little way to be closer to the Lawn and civilization. Whoever gets there first may have a different idea, and that's fine. Smile

As I mentioned, I won't be able to get there at the start, b/c I have some responsibilities at church, but I'll get there as soon as I can. If y'all want, I can call and check with someone (who?) to see if there's anything else I need to pick up at Publix... we might need ice or water or potato salad or something....
