Forgive the newbness of this post (I really should know better by now). I have finally decided to come over to the light side, so I'm planning and sourcing a ROTS Obi-Wan. I've posted some questions on COW as well.

I'm good on nearly everything except the boots and the belt. I'm looking for either a seller on the belt or a tutorial on how to make one. I've seen the costumebase one on ebay and I know there is better out there.

What is the general consensus on the Museum Replicas Obi-wan bits? Are the boots or belt worth the price?

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Paul

for the boots, i recommend this

http://cgi.ebay.com/STAR-WARS-ANAKIN-OBI-WAN-CUSTOM-JEDI-LEATHER-BOOTS-/150575075676?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230ef9515c

I have a pair of his ep3 Obi-Wan boots, they are worth every credit, I have seen the MR boots and they don't look bad, but went with the
custom boots instead. Hope this helps

I know that The Rebel Agent (Master of COW) is working on a functional and really accurate buckle that will be available via shapeways. He posted one of his prototyps and it looked great but I don't know when it will be available.
Concerning the boxes you could ask SithariRog over here or at COW. He did a run of absolutely great looking belt boxes for Obi-wan. You find pictures of the boxes here: http://www.crazyoldwizards.com.ar/www/cow/boards/forum_posts.asp?TID=614&title=utility-box-project-need-opinions or in this forum.

The belt itself is rather easy to make yourself. You just need 2 leather straps in the right width, the rivets (for the smaller strap and the closure in the back), some velcro and the buckle. You just have to decide wether you buy a brown one that maybe does not match the color exactly or dye it yourself. The leather pouch could be made yourself, too. The Rebel Agent posted a tutorial (in spanish but with a lot of pictures) over at COW.

SithariRog is working on a belt as well, have a look here: http://www.crazyoldwizards.com.ar/www/cow/boards/forum_posts.asp?TID=636&title=leather-belt-project.

The custom-props belt looks rather good if you want to buy one. But I think it is not as accurate as I would like - especially the rivets from the first glance. But it seems to be a rather good source judging from the pictures. I never saw one in person.

So I would recommend to either wait for SithariRog's belt run or to do it yourself.
Hope that helped.

I used JediKai's tutorial for the belt basic creation. With the final image in mind I purchased the leather from Tandy (3" belt blank and I think I used 1/2" small strap, can't remember off the top of my head) and used British Tan dye to make mine.

I have the MR OWK replicas. They're really good boots, solidly put together screen replicas that I get a lot of compliments on the workmanship. Best of all, they don't hurt you feet after 4 hours of trooping! With the addition of some straps from Tandy and efficient use of Velcro, I also created a conversion to Episode I boots. A couple quick shots for you to see at other angles and in different light:

I concur with Ken here.

I also went with Daniel in Peru... THEY ARE CUSTOM MADE TO FIT YOU Smile

Here is my review:
http://www.crazyoldwizards.com.ar/www/cow/boards/forum_posts.asp?TID=419&PN=10&title=new-obi-boot-vendor-on-ebay

I wear it for both my Obi I/III costumes (he can make them convertible as you can see in my review).

Soft as butter, accurate color and the most comfortable I own.

You could ask SithariRog. As you can see here:
http://www.crazyoldwizards.com.ar/www/cow/boards/forum_posts.asp?TID=614&title=utility-box-project-need-opinions
he makes great belt pouches.

Yep, I make the utility boxes for the Jedi belts. If you're not a member of the RL, then you won't have access to the "for sale" thread, but...you can see the boxes at the COW site:
www.http://www.crazyoldwizards.com.ar/www/cow/boards/forum_posts.asp?TID=635&title=fs-utility-boxes-for-jedi-utility-belts

As for the boots. You CAN'T go wrong with boots from Daniel (Peru), links listed above. I've got a pair of his Obi-wan boots and they're perfect! He even made the top straps removable so you can use them for both the ATOC and ROTS Obi-wan costume.

I'm not making the actual belt, but will be posting a tutorial on how to make them. Look for an update to my tutorial (in the Jedi Forum) soon. I'll also be updating a tutorial for the Jedi Master's Robe.

As for the leather pouch? I'm going to make those...I've got the leather, dye and know how to do it...I've just not done it yet. Once I have those available, I'll add that to my utility box threads.

Any questions, you're in the right place to ask! Also COW is a GREAT site for Obi-wan info Wink

Is there any recommendations for the pants? I've done some looking around and it seems that the color is an unusual one. Has anyone found an off the rack pair of pants that is accurately colored or do most people dye them?

I got mine off the rack at Old Navy, they were the closest I found to
a match.

http://civilizedgalacticgear.com/

That's where I got my pouches from. These are made of real leather and they look amazing. The guy does great work. They are a little pricey but you aren't going to find real leather pouches anywhere else right now.

I have contacted the crazyoldwizards.com guy and he doesn't make many batches and last time I e-mailed him he said he wasn't going to be doing so any time soon. I hear he makes good ones, but I am not sure what the price is.

I am very happy with the ones I got from Civilized Galactic Gear. As for the boots...my boots are also from JDos aka Daniel in Peru. Here's a link to his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/JDOSprops. He does great work and can custom fit the boots to your feet and legs.

Thanks for the links, I'll check those out. Smile

I have a feeling, I'm way over-thinking the smallest details, but it's how I am.

You're not overthinking the details. It's the details that make for a better costume and costumer in my opinion. It's shortcuts and people that say ''good enough, no one will notice'' that don't do so well amongst their peers and the public. Sometimes you might be the only one that did a certain detail that people may not notice, but if you hadn't done it then it would bug the crap out of you. I have a fold on part of my Indy jacket, that is screen accurate but I'm the only one who knows, lame as it may be.
