Phyllis quick question. On the gators for the endor trooper. Can u use old koren war/ww2 gators?

I have seen some people use those as a temporary pair of gaiters...
I actually have a pair of those that one of the members of Endor Bunker Yahoo Group sent me because he had an extra pair.

As with most all of the Trooper costumes...the key to looking like a "unit" is to match each other on the Base level as closely as possible.

To date, we have two Endor Commandos...
me and Kim Webster...and hopefully we will soon have Ashley...

I have made Kim's gaiters and mine to match...and now Ashley's match ours as well...
if you do, at some point, choose to pursue Endor Commando, I do have fabric to make you a pair of these gaiters as well. The fabric I have used in a good amount of Endor Commando pieces was recently discontinued. In an effort to have "supplies" for future commandos, I found a source for this fabric and ordered a quantity to have on hand while I could still get it.

Very Happy

With the next "big" movie anniversary coming up being "Return of the Jedi"...I have finally began the last piece of my Endor Commando...
it only took 3 years to start the project...lol...so..hopefully it won't take me 3 years to finish........

I have been "collecting" pieces here and there for years...

The Endor Hardpack!

at least this project will be a lot easier than the Hoth Hardpack...

anyway...from this odd assemblage of "stuff"

will emerge a harpack...

first thing was that the side rails of the boyscout pack frame had to be cut down..

before:

after:

Then the top and box "insert pieces" had to be cut and formed from sintra....the pill box had to be modified and primered...
It took me like no time to figure out that my Johnson and Johnson first aid kit plastic box was too large (it was a really old one)...so I had to buy a new "Johnson and Johson first aid kit-to-go" as recommended by "Lonescout"....cheap...$1.99.....lol..

so...
this is as far as I got...and just making patterns, cutting, sanding and glueing just this much took hours.....lol...

I also started the first wee bit of Steve's General Lando...
see update in his "progress post".

To Jim you listen...
lol..

ebay..

as a matter of fact...
In the Troopers forum there is a thread that I continually post to when I see the Boy Scout packs come up for bid on e-bay..

it is here:

http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21965&start=15

keep a watch on that thread...
for a while....there were a bunch of them showing up on e-bay..
the last few months though have been a little "thin"...

maybe again in the spring when everyone does "spring cleaning" some more will come up again..but I have a favorite search on e-bay for them and try to let others know when they come up for bid....sometimes they go cheap or get no bids...and sometimes...they go for a lot. Girl Scouts had an identical pack frame only with a green canvas pack instead of the tan color of the Boy Scouts...

I made a little more progress this morning...then had to let epoxy dry and had other stuff to take care of...
will post more photos later...

and...
know that I am making a full set of patterns, templates, and eventually ...
a tutorial...

ok....so I am moving at a snail's pace...
but in my defense...I have been too busy with a couple of huge events that are coming up and have done a bunch of costume events.

I remember when I started to look at the pack and frame and take apart some of the pieces off it that this backpack appeared well traveled and well loved by its previous owner....the grommets in the webbing for the shoulder straps were about torn out of the webbing like heavy loads had been carried in it many times.

When I got the first box cover made and a bunch of the other pieces...I put the bottom box onto the frame and thought that wow...this pack REALLY seems to have a bend in it...

so...

I got out my Hoth pack...
and ..
well...
see the photos below....

The pack frames are both "Frontier" pack frames...
both had identical canvas packs...

but as you can see the pack frame for the Endor pack IS really bent compared to the Hoth pack...

I think I will have to attempt to straighten the Endor pack frame somewhat to get the boxes to sit right....they sit horrible with the frame as it is...

so...
if some of the pack frames are more bent looking..
it might be that they are indeed bent from weight?

getting closer...

straightened out the frame first..

Stick a fork in it...
it's done...

I will be out on a week long binge now that this pain in my posterior is done...it is embarassing to admit it has taken me over 3 years to finish this...
I have started it...put it aside....started it...put it aside...
more times than I care to admit...

I'm free...
free...
free of this project!

Laughing

now to move on to Steve's Lando and Valissa's friends Jedi belt!

There is no end to the amount of work you do for the NSB/MWG is there?

Great job on the camo coloring. It looks looks like camo and not spots of spray paint! Wink

moving right along...

before I head into Lando I still have a few bits of unfinished business...

as part of the Making Strides incentives for fundraising..
I have started on a Jedi belt for Valissa's friend..

I am starting out with the same belt that Janine did...
it is a really dark brown tool belt with what I feel is an interesting look to it....

I started by drilling out the rivits that hold the buckle in place to gain more length in places where I wanted length...

Where I kinda also liked the white stitching...
I decided to remove it all...

Then the thin belt will be of a contrasting color...which I also like..

Well...
that is as far as I got...

but I also tried my hand at vegetable tanned leather molding to make a "cover" for the back of the belt to hide some of the attachment..
not sure how it will all work out...
but..

nothing ventured...
nothing gained..

Wink
