I am also thinking of being an A-wing pilot. I have a general idea of what to get (Green Pilot Jump suit, Tubes, chest box, boots). I agree that the A-wing helmet is one of the difficult things about the A-wing pilot. Any help is greatly appreciated.

How did you get the plastic formed, anyway (or how will you)? Did you find someone with a machine, buy something to do it yourself (or already own one), go to a company or what? I'm just curious.

well it's a 2 part liquid mix. just pour them together, mix, and pour into your mold. so easy a caveman can do it. Smile

if anyone is interested in mold making or casting a great starter site is www.smooth-on.com
lots of videos and how to's. Awing

Ah, I see. So you probably made a mold of your helmet first to pour the liquid into?
Hmm, perhaps I should try something like that for my B-Wing chestbox after C5. It sure would make it a lot smoother (I think) and lighter. Right now it's just foam covered in PaperClay.

you got it. there are alot of deffrent products out there for casting. research is key to getting what you want. but if you had that same helmet made from resin you could then sand it smooth and really get some sharp angles and lines. plus a mold will pick up every detail you put into your sculpt. unlike a vac-formed piece that can look alittle muted. on the down side it's also more expensive then vac-forming so you gotta take alook at what you want to get in the end. Wink

Well, unfortunately I don't know anyone with a vacuum form machine, nor do I have one myself, and companies only do them in mass bulk (if I can even find a company that would still be willing to do it). So if I ever do want to make a lighter plastic version... I think that a liquid mold like this is pretty much my only option.
I'd love to vacuum form it out, but don't have the tools.

'Course, I guess maybe once I join the Rebel Legion base here maybe someone will know someone who does have one or could help me out... Stranger things have happened.

But, anyhow, I'll look forward to seeing how your helmet turns out. Good luck. Smile

Hey kids, started my cast today (intsead of finishing my tusken rifle Razz ),
Thought i'd throw up a quick pic for you guys.

Kinda looks like the ooze from ghostbusters 2. lol
Should have my transition cast done by tomorrow night. Then it's the fun world of sanding and fine tuning before my final casting.
