Actually the Hoth gloves are fairly easy to make. Just grap a set of gray swede gardeners gloves from Home Depot and sew a cuff on it reenforced with heavy interfacing.

Do a Google Image Search for TIG Welders Glove Gauntlet and you will find lots of gauntlets in many colors, of which some are the correct white/grey for this costume and not too expensive.
They seem to be the most common in the UK ...
Be careful that many have logos on both gloves that don't come off, so you may have to buy two pairs and remake the cuff.
I believe that the prop-makers of the movie used real-world TIG welding gauntlets that luckily had a logo only on the left cuff.
To sew through thick leather, I found the best method was to hand-crank the sewing machine without thread just to get the seam holes and then sew it by hand.
These are the best pics of the original gloves and the wrist comm pad that I have found on the 'net:

Picked up a pair of these about a half-hour ago:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=488
If you have a Harbor Freight location near you, you can pick up a pair right now for $5, or a package of 3 pair for $10.
I'm not necessarily planning on a Hoth costume right now, but I couldn't resist these for the price just in case some day I change my mind...

Good call on Harbor Freight. The gloves are perfect a long as they fit you. My wife has much smaller hands but we went to Lowes and found similar garden gloves that fit her better. They don't extend as far but we plan to cut the cuffs off the ones from HF and sew them onto the ones from Lowes. It's the same color leather so it should do fine.
Does anybody know where I can find any grey suede in quantity? I'm trying to work on the boots. _________________ Liberty Squadron XO -- X-Wing Pilot

OK...maybe I'm just tired, but I can't seem to find a good pix (or better a supplier) for the gauntlet compad. Would someone send me a link or two.
Oh, and for the record, Box Pleats on Acetate is a Beyotch. That is all. _________________ ...Big Red, Standing By..... |

Darth Lars is the man you need, hes selling the compads at the moment I think. If you cant see the above thread, then just PM him here.

ESB Hoth Rebel Officer/Pilot Wrist Comm pad
The original was worn by Snowspeeder pilots, General Rieekan and Luke Skywalker and Han Solo when they are riding around on Taun-Tauns on Hoth. Luke Skywalker is seen using it in the opening scene.
It can also be seen as a set piece used here and there. Except the ones on the pilots, I can spot five of them in the Snowspeeder cockpit.
I am selling resin casts of my original sculpt -- an interpretation that I have made from promo images and screen caps. I do not have any evidence of there being any holes in the red area on the comm pad: that is only my interpretation.
The comm pad is worn on the left gauntlet's cuff. I designed it to be bolted on with a piece of sheet plastic on the inside. It is really secure that way.

I believe that the comm pad was a "found item" that was spruced up. Probably a white plastic panel of some sorts.
I have found five of these panels in the Snowspeeder's cockpit! One of them is in the instrument panel. The other four, each being on each side of the pilot and gunner respectively.
It is very hard to see from these pics, but I think that the "teeth" in the front could have been made of transparent plastic.
The Snowtrooper Commander and AT-AT drivers wear similar gloves as the Rebels but with a different comm pad on the gauntlet cuff -- and there are better pictures available of that one. That comm pad does have similiar looking teeth, that are apparently of transparent plastic. Unfortunately I noticed this only after I had started making my own. |

Waiting on replies, but Darth Lars advised Baron Flux may be the go to guy for these.
Darth Lars wrote: | I guess that interest is on the rise now, seeing that this style of wrist comm is also seen in Rogue One. If anybody wants a mould and start casting these for their local Rebel Base (or to sell), then do send me a PM on the RPF! Active RL members doing it for their base would get one for the cost of materials and shipping, but it would have to be after Christmas... |
