I've been aware of that C-class canon detail for some time, as it was discovered by my BCO and great friend Shvagyer, and now I have finally found some reference pictures.

Pictures come from Empire: The Warrior Princess comic book.

Although the cap may seem almost identical to the imperial officer hat, it is not. The shape is more close to the classic US patrol cap. In our base we've begun tradition to wear khaki/olive drab patrol caps when having helmet-off some time ago, and I must say it really suits the RFT costume well.

As I'm now faaar away from my home and have a lot of costuming plans for summer, when I'll be back, I will certainly want to spend some time to get a patrol cap modified to resemble those from comic book. I think it would need cannibalizing the other cap, but addition of some material on the back and some possibly reinforced material on the front of the cap would be enough.

Kudos and respect to any trooper who makes that cap before me Smile

Some of the RFTs in my Base, including me, just wear these for Off Duty, with various Rebel Alliance pins on them:

They are easy to get, and match our vests.

And they are great for hiding that "helmet hair".

Awesome find! Wearing something like that - does it help keep the proper RFT helmet on better? I know some people wear a baseball cap under theirs??

I don't think so. For me the best way is to buy a cheap plastic construction worker's helmet and remove the liner to put it in my RFT helmet. Those elastic liners are adjustable and have removable cotton pads. You can fix the liner secure to your helmet by Velcro or just some glue or power tape, it's just important to fix it properly to prevent the helmet from bumping from side to side over your head.

I think those caps would be best to maintain the 'military' look with helmet removed, especially in situations when it can obstruct your movements (entertaining children, etc)

Really? Are you sure? I've never seen, or heard of anyone doing that. I don't think that would work, and it would look weird.

Caps are for Off Duty, when you're not wearing your helmet.

I've always wanted one of these to match the one pictured in the comic. But a warning. The comic colors are a bit out of whack. It shows a brownish/tan hat that matches the brownish/tan pants.

As the RFT pants are supposed to be grey, following the matching guideline of the comic, shouldn't the cap be a grey to match the RFT pants as well?

That's exactly what I've been lobbying for. The olive cap looks out of place to me, while a grey one (matching the pants) would fit perfectly the overall color scheme of the costume and also give it a navy feel. After all, RFTs were a branch of the Rebel Fleet, not SpecForce or the army.

Yup, totally out of place. I'm gonna get a grey one and modify it according to the comic book references.

Well I still can't say which color should it be.

If we want to make those caps lets do them in one unified color.

I will wait for more opinions but if majority agrees that cap should be gray (like pants) I will try to come up with that color.

And the comic has the shirt button down the front!

I'd agree that they should be the same grey as the BDU pants, keeps things nice and uniform looking.

As far as the mods go, looks like maybe the front part was based on the Hoth caps that most of the rebels wear.

Neat! I should tack one of these onto my own ever-growing list of projects, if only I could find the END of said list. lol I wonder... might off duty pilots wear something similar? I should look into that... Anywho, kudos for the idea! I'd love to see it when it's done.

interesting....

lol..
I hate hats....aside from costuming... I NEVER wear hats...
not even in our cold winters around here...
I just wear a hoodie and put my hood up when absolutely necessary..

so...if my bucket is off....
there won't be a hat on my head..

Another set of reference pics.

Those make me think that it should be rather khaki/olive drab.

From those pics, it looks like the colorist make the hat the same as the pants so I would say you could do the same thing in real life to make it look better.
