I'm putting up a poll to gauge the interest of the membership in creating our own backdrops/walls to take to events for photo ops. Some suggestions include the Twin Suns backdrop of Tatooine, or creating the walls that look like the Tantive IV.

Please vote! Smile

Just an FYI: Rob Meyer down in Tucson had offered to donate some wall panels that had a Bespin style look and window/door cutouts in them.
I think there are three wall panels total (4' wide x 8' tall each). Joel has already agreed to store them at the shop once we get them. It's just a matter of getting them from Rob the next time he can come up to Phoenix. They may need to be painted. I have not seen them in person but did see a small photo.

Yes I think we should start with Rob's stuff if we can find a way to get it up here from Tucson. Free is good.

If we cannot go the free route, here at my work we have plastic sheets from colored to clear that could be used to make the backdrops. My boss would be willing to cut us a deal, but it would not be free. Evil or Very Mad

Rob does plan to come up for PCC, but I would not plan on waiting. Get them ASAP incase they need some work. If there are any more events down in Tucson, perhaps someone with a pickup can grab them after the next event.

Is there anyway we could get Rob to shoot us a photo of the backdrop to see if it's something we'd want to use?

Wayne still has his plans. i forget how much he said it would cost to build the walls, but they would be very easy to convert to Tantive IV type walls.

Here's the pic that Rob sent to me. It was really small so I enlarged it and it looks fuzzy now but you get the idea.

I'm not so sure about the color scheme on it, but with a good paint job it may look pretty decent. The window cutout has a clear plexiglas backing.

It would be really easy to repaint and get an oversized color print out of something like the Millennium Falcon or X-wings flying through the air (or space) to put on the other side of that window!!

A shot of Darth Vader standing over Luke hanging on the catwalk would be cool. As if you were watching it happen from another room in the city.

Thanks Jay for mentioning my name. I could design a set of backdrop walls for you folks... In my plans for new DS Walls, there are a total of 6 4'x8' walls. Wall panel 3 has a functioning Door that allows the characters to enter/exit through to a break/stagging area behind the walls with a lighted door arch. Wallpanel 2 has a fully operational light pannel. Wall panel 4 has a static door control panel with lots of switches nobs and blinking lights. Wall panel 5 has two cut out areas for flat screen monitors to be installed for computer animated design and or movies to be played on. Wall panel 6 has a window cut out that will hopefully one day have a high definition print of a star field with a Star Destroyer in the background. At the base of all walls is an audio/special effects cut out for cabeling or smoke to be passed through without seeing the equipment etc. I priced all the materials and the cost for all 6 wall panels is under $300.00.

I agree that free is indeed good but in the realm of designers you won't find much better than Wayne.
