Here's a crazy thought...what if they had some sort of cotton velvet and it wasn't shot with pink at all. Maybe it's just the pink lining showing through the velvet?? That might help take away the sheen of the silk velvet...? I've no idea if the cotton velvet would be thin enough for the pink lining to show through or not...

Sorry, they both do. I was looking at the back of the promo shot in the sunlight and I can still see a yellowish cast from there. Celadon is def a more yellow green than blue green but again I know you saw it in person and I did not. Both of your samples need a bit more yellow to them IMO.

Y'know, I think the pink backing with it's slight red cast is upping the blue factor a bit. Here's the green dyes offered by the company I'm using.

I have new emerald green on hand and was thinking of maybe trying that. Any thoughts?

Hmm, I've never tried it, I'm not sure it would once the pile is dyed dark, but you never know. I'll order a sample when I can to try it out (they're out of stock of velveteen unfort. :p ) An interesting thought, thanks!

Yeah it might look better but you might need something with a bit more yellow(like the avocado) to counter the effect of the pink cast but looks like you have some more experimenting to do.

SisterSola made this dress a few years back. She didn't do a write up that I know of, but it shows what color combos she went off of.

It wouldn't be Smile The only fabric that would be would be that standard "silk" velvet with the thin ground and rayon pile. Even then it would have to be a really thin pile to show the ground which would have to be white anyway.

I think Vera is right. The pinkish ground is throwing the colour. I think the paler version overtoned with a slight but of ochre, very slight would help dull it a little.

Have you tried alterego dyes?

Limited range of colours but I suspect if the movie fabric was cutsom dyed it would be from a mix of these.

Nope, haven't tried the alter ego dyes because of the limited range. But I use acid dye which only dyes the silk, and fiber reactive dye which, since not done in hot water only dyes the rayon pile, so it's pretty much the same thing only I have to do it in two batches rather than one :p That Troene green color looks interesting though. Might have to try that one when it comes back in stock. Thanks for the links Smile

Taking a few-day break from dying til the weather warms up on Monday! *brr!*

Weeeeell, that's more like it!

I still want to see what it looks like in the daylight (which we might not see here for another day) but I'm liking what the "New Emerald Green" did. Opinions? I still would like to find some kind of cross-fiber velveteen to do this in instead.

-edit- Hmmm... well, even though the pink shine looks right on camera I just discovered something weird with the last two samples, the pinks in the silk weave have faded... maybe I shouldn't worry about it...

I agree, this one looks better. Smile

Sister Sola's does have that yellowish shine to it that Becca was talking about.
