Well, I watched the masquerades here last year - I felt like there was much more impressive stuff than what I had made. I don't know, I don't think I want the stress of having to get ready for the masquerade and hanging out back stage and all that.

Hum, I thought maybe the Simplicity Contest was for following a pattern much more closely than I did! My pattern was totally reworked. The rest of the costume was all drafted by me, and although the bodice started with the Simplicity pattern it was totally redrafted. I just used it as a pattern block to give me a start with a shape.

Thanks for the encouragement though! I wish some of my other costumes were Simplicity!

http://www.costume-con.com/cc27/pattern_contest.htm
Quote:
Simplicity is sponsoring a contest for the best use of a Simplicity pattern in any of the competitions; Fantasy & Science-Fiction Masquerade, Future Fashion Show, or Historic Masquerade. First Prize will be $250.00, Second Prize will be an assortment of Simplicity Patterns, and Third Prize will be a Side Winder (bobbin winder).

You must start with a Simplicity pattern. It can be of any age , it does not have to be from their current catalog. You must bring a copy of the front of the pattern envelope clearly showing the Simplicity pattern number. The garment must be part of a costume entered in one of the three contests listed above, but it does not have to be the major feature of the costume.

You don't have to sew up the pattern exactly as shown on the envelope, it can be adapted:
Quote:
Simplicity sponsored a similar contest for Costume Con 3, and the first prize went to Adrian Butterfield who adapted a Simplicity coat pattern for her SS Officer's greatcoat in the Historic competition.

I actually like being back stage to see all the costumes up close, I watch the actual Masquerade presentations later on the video.

I just noticed according to http://www.albinjohnson.com/501stLegion/command/LXO-itinerary.html Janine Garner http://www.501stlegion.org/members/displaymemberdetails.php?userID=4315
http://jkg-costumes.livejournal.com/ will be at Costume Con.

And I belive that Anne Davenport http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1990 will also be at CC27.

Yeah I had really wanted to go but I forgot about it and then family obligations(and emergencies) conspired to keep me away Sad But I did finish some embroidery on my Naboo Nightgown with my new embroidery machine.

You missed a great con Becca, and it was practically on your door step. Kathy (Kay_dee) had to fly in, and I spent 6 1/2 hours each way on NYC Subway, Chinatown Bus to shuttle bus, then Light rail hauling my two big suitcases with my costumes plus hats for show and tell for the Friday panel I gave (along with Judy Mitchell the Historic Masquerade Director).

I have so far uploaded all my photos to one album in
http://www.dotphoto.com/go.asp?l=QueenAmidala&AID=1044581 I still have to finish up spliting them into sub folders by category and edit out any photos that came out poorly. I was a slacker and only took about 350 photos, there were still lots of costumes I missed getting photos of.

I did not shoot any of the Masquerades or Future Fashion Folio as I'm
getting a CD of the pro photos that Ken Warren took.
