I was looking through some old reference material and I came across these chestbox layouts.
Notice the positioning of the round greeblies from box to box as well as the square colors:

Biggs

Empire Strikes Back

Hobbie

Hoth

Luke (MOM exhibit)

Luke (Visual Dictionary)

Wedge (ROTJ)

Zev Senesca

I remember those from a few years ago.

I'm doing my chest box kit in the style of Luke from the MoM exhibit.

I'd almost do the Zev or the ESB version.... but then again, I am quite partial to the color green!

You're such a Corellian, Bill. lol

I like the "classic" look.

I've already painted my toggle switches, and used my leather hole punch to make the red dots out of red reflective tape. Those should look interesting in flash photos.

Making this "sticky" as it's good reference materials.

I like this thread, too, as it has measurements:

http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13863

I compared those measurements with my own home-made chest box, which I based around 1-inch squares for the squares, and it's probably about as close as anyone's likely to get without having a screen-used one in their hands.

A lot of people buy chest boxes that are already made.

I don't know what color other people use on their kits, but I like the look of Rustoleum's Smoke Gray gloss enamel, it's kind of a darkish gray. The number for it is 7786.

Here is the paint scheme that I used for all my Xboxes.

It is called Smoke Grey...it does have the bluish tint in it. For comparison...the middle rocker switch is medium dark grey.

You could also look for a hue called "denim".

Denim sounds like it would be too blue.

Wow, I have been looking for those. Lost them off my old hard drive. I remember doing those in Illustrator originally with a litlte help from Dallas.
