AND spelling!
Sorry, I just couldn't resist. No hard feelings I hope. Even if you suck at SEWING, this costume should be pretty good for you. I had never sewed much of anything in my life before the vest on this. Just use common sense and don't be afraid to try. If you go through something enough with needle and thread, it'll stay put.
Just get yourself a jumpsuit from costumebase on ebay. They make a flak vest as well, then follow my thread as a kind of tutorial. Let us know when you get stuck.

I've updated my original post to show my original boots and the new boots that I am using for the uniform.
Unfortunately this means that I also had to order a new leg flare holder since the new boots are around a wider part of my leg. |

Hi there!
I have a few questions regarding the leg and belt flares.
First, I've got metal flares with the screw to fasten them. I am wondering if anyone has an easy method of getting the screws through the webbing material of the leg strap and belt? I'm not sure if a belt punch would even fit inside the loops? I'd appreciate any feedback before I start poking holes or go out and purchase a belt punch.
Next, regarding positioning, it appears that Luke's mini flares were flush with the bottom of the belt in the ANH publicity photos. It looks like the Smithsonian display also has it this way. That said, it looks like Luke wore the belt in the opposite direction in ANH because the buckle tab faces his left side rather than his right. I often see people positioning the belt flares perfectly centered so they extend beyond the belt equally on top and bottom. Has there been a determination to what is accurate? Maybe it's too small a detail?
Last, I'm trying to position the mini flares accurately (for Luke) on the belt. As mentioned, it looks like Luke wore the belt upside down in the publicity images. The movie positioning of the mini flares seem accurate when you flip the belt over. It appears that Luke uses the following positions from left to right in the Yavin hanger scene before the battle...
Left side: 1 & 4
Right side: 1,3,4,5,6
I only have 6 mini flares so it seems like I'll need to get another.
Thanks in advance!
