I think it would be perfectly acceptable to have LEDs. It's not really changing anything... I consider it "upgrading" a costume. Making it stand out more. And besides, on some pictures I've seen (from comic books) some chestboxes do look like they have LED lights on them. As long as you're not sticking a strobe light on it I don't see the problem.

Of course I'm not yet a member of the Rebel Legion, so what do I know?

But in my case, my commpad has LEDs and I'm going to be putting some LEDs into my chextbox when I get it finished. I was thinking about putting one or two on my helmet as well, but I'm not entirely sure yet.
But I'm making a B-Wing pilot outfit, not an X-Wing pilot...

I've got two chestboxes, one standard and one with small subtle flashing LEDs (no - they dont look like beacons haha).

I'll try to sort you out a pic of it or even a video of the flashing lights. Theres a flashing green light at the top of the box and then LEDs inset into 4 of the flat squares.

Looks great in the dark or a low light environment.

I think that it is OK to have a light, if it lights up only if you press one of the buttons on the box/pad and does not stay on (flashing or steady).

But that is only my personal opinion.

Here you go Thomas, a video of my 'alternate chestbox'. Turned the lights off half way through so you can see the full effect without houselights on.

Its not an 'accurate' chestbox and I pretty much upgraded it to a full canon one after I got it, but its a 'fun' chestbox that the kids like if you are doing a small event or something like that....you'd have to debate the word 'accurate' of course with the rest of the world. Wink

I'm a big fan of augmenting static costume parts with LEDs. I think it adds a "wow" factor. Here's my blog showing how I modified my Comm Pad and Chest Box. For the Chest Box, I went a step further and put a FPV camera, video recorder and RF transmitter inside.

While the 501st has rules against LEDs on Tie Pilot comm pads, there is nothing documented that prohibits an X-Wing Pilot from wearing LED-enhanced parts.

P.S. My buddies call the blinky LEDs "nerd porn" Laughing

I am not going to say you cannot have them, but if you are at a film canon event, they are not allowed as they never appeared on the screen. (The chances of someone calling you out on it is slim, but why take chances?)

If you submit your costume for approval with the binky lights, you may be denied because it did not appear on screen in the films so far.

With the power off, and it looks "screen accurate", then go ahead.

Thanks, I've been looking for some info on modding my comm pad!
