Corellian Base Year-in-Review 2008

In a year that had everything from cons, charity work, to even a new Star Wars movie, television show , and other items our base was busy with constant work. Let’s take a look back through the year of 2008.

The First quarter of 2008, did see a lot of sadness and excitement. In January, many of us occupied Chattacon and just hung out and had fun at a convention of relaxation and enjoyment. However, by the first of February we received some sadness that our Commanding and Executive Officers both had to resign for personal reasons with open arms we understood and wished both Derek and Joe good blessings. Also, in February 2008, we held a special election to elect a new Commanding Officer in which, Alex McKeel was nominated and voted in to be the new CO. The vote came in after many members of our base invaded a new convention in Chattanooga called Connooga. This convention was an awesome way of saying finally a convention that was made for the fans by the fans. In March 2008, saw many members attend mid-south con in Memphis, Tennessee, Omegacon in Birmingham, Alabama. Some members helped in a Bar Mitzvah, which $5,000.00 was donated to TC Thompson Children’s Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The second quarter was highlighted by our annual raid upon Adventurecon, in Knoxville, TN. We did not have a huge number of Rebels this year because of high gas prices, but we had one of the best displays of fan groups in attendance. We also, did invasions around Clarksville at North Stewart Elementary Spring Carnival and Lookout Valley Elementary. However, not all was items that were going at this time were happy ones. The Command Staff was informed that our beloved Corellian base forum was attacked not by the Galactic Empire but by another more dangerous evil Empire. As a result, of this we had to shut the forum down because we feared that many of our member’s computers could be at risk. We also learned that our comrades in Alabama were growing and have been informed they are planning to create their own base. The command staff agreed that the best way to handle this was to just not to try to fight it that way we can stay friends. We also agreed that it shows that the Rebel Legion is growing, which is an awesome. Many of us also invaded our local theaters to bring in the new Star Wars movie Clone Wars. Not since Episode Three we have not had that much excitement in the air about a new movie. Our base also did many events in our local Toys R Us stores to help in the release of the Clone Wars Toy line. Lastly during this time, our base welcomed and installed our first honorary member into our base that of Weird Al.

The Third Quarter started off with a bang with the events at Dragoncon. Many of our members escorted many of the Star Wars Celebrities that was in attendance. At Dragoncon we showed our presence and demonstrated that we was a base to contend with. After the convention many of our members help with the release of the video game, The Force Unleashed. We also did many charities duties among these was the Vanderbilt’s We Care for Kids Day and an Autism Walk both in Nashville, Tennessee.

The last quarter of 2008 saw us having many measures to help us take hold into the Star Wars Universe. Alex McKeel was chosen to be the Commanding Officer again. However, after the ending of the elections saw the beginning of the formation of the new Rebel Legion Base with our friends in Alabama leaving. We wished them luck and may the Force Be with them on their new exciting journey to establish a presence in Alabama. Our base did many events during this time including events in Tennessee and Kentucky. In this quarter we all showed our Christmas Spirits by many members participating in Christmas Parades to help in Toys-for-Tots Drives. The highland of the last quarter of 2008 was the event that our friends in the Mid-South Garrison invited us to attend. This was the Sci-fi night at the Nashville Predators Game. This was a fun event and saw many of both sides of Star Wars joining hand and hand to help the Nashville Predators in this event. At the conclusion of the event the Command Staff gave out our first ever Corellian Base Awards. These awards were not the easiest to honor because our base has such a diverse of costumers in our base. However, the Command Staff did an excellent job on establishing who should have obtained these awards.

Yes, it is safe to say that our base was very active this year, and we will be continue to be active at conventions, charities functions, parades, and other items. We do not know what the year of 2009 holds for us, but we will face them together as a base and as friends. Let me say this it has been both an honor and joy being your commander during the past year. Also, thank you for allowing me a second term and like I said in my speech we will have fun and we have had fun so far. The Corellian Base is three states. However, we have but one heart beat to show our serenity and love for the movies that we love. Now once again let’s go out there and enjoy the holidays and rest up because 2009 we will have even more fun.

May the Force Be With You,

Commanding Officer Alex McKeel

What a great year you had. I'm a little late to the game but I'll do whatever I can to promote and be an ambassador for the Rebel Legion and Corellian Base. Let me take this chance to thank the Corellian command staff for all the hard work they do during the year to keep this an active and fun place to be!
