Ok, silly question time. As I understand it my RFT at formal events should basically just have everything in my picture. Helmet, boots, pants, shirt, vest and if allowed, my DH-17 and holster. Right?

I like to dabble in making props on occasion and I've put together datapads, a thermal detonator for my GF, a custom blaster inspired by Lando's RotJ officer's side arm and a blaster rifle. The rifle (mp-5)and blaster (p-99) are made off of no-longer functioning airsoft guns. I'm also working on a "medpac" concept as well. The Star Wars RPG, Wookiepedia and the novels are helping me out tremendously to get the creative juices flowing, but can I troop with these things? I've seen the pics of the RFT with the comm backpack and custom gun (that whole rig absolutely rawks btw), so would that be informal type gear for use at conventions? I mean I can see an RFT outfitted with at least, a commlink, datapad, a frag grenade or two, glow rod, rations, power packs and energy cells.

And also, when y'all troop, do you create a persona and play that persona throughout the day? So instead of saying Hi, I'm Carlos from CT, it's Hi, I'm Corporal Rook of Alderaan base. My apologies if this is too deep, I've spent the last six or so years performing at ren faires and table top RP'ing and being a general ham so I want to know or at least get a consensus of how many other people do this, where the boundaries are and is this appropriate and all that good stuff.

How does this all work, I guess is my basic question...

(I hope all of the above made some sense)

For canon events (formal events where you are representing the legion and what people expect to see from Star Wars--what they saw on screen) you are allowed to wear/equip what was seen "on screen". There are other events like conventions where you can "accessorize" with whatever you want.

As far as being in character, it's up to you and who you are communicating with. Being in character adds to your presentation and I think is encouraged. Sometimes you step out of character is people ask you questions about your rig, comfort a scared child that you are OK, or something like that. As for me, being in character is more fun, but you learn to adjust to the situation.

If you're talking about the RFT at Celebration IV with the backpack and BFG (Big Freakin' Gun), that was a Sunrider member.

As Trooperdad stated, FORMAL events require us to be "screen accurate"; but at conventions or other non-formal events you can "accessorize" your outfit. It's all part of the fun. Smile

I was 90% sure he was Sunrider, but was too tired to try and find the pic again. You guys rock with the dedication you have to costuming. Yes, I lurk on your boards sometimes, LOL. I can't wait to debut what will be my characters version of "Vera". Which leads me into...

...The other part of my post. I like the idea of and am comfortable with dropping into character while in costume. Like I said, I've been doing it for years. So once I come up with something more solid, I'll do it Wink

Feel free to register on Sunrider's Project Board (I just got the new version up and running this week); that way you can post if you want. We have lots of RL visitors - and non-RL visitors.

The mission for the Project Board is to share information on our group projects. The info is also in the Rebel Troopers forum and the Yahoo! Groups (Tantive IV and Endor Bunker) in a more condensed format. Smile

Unfortunately we moved last week and all our data was lost. So yes, you have to re-register because we're starting from scratch. Sad

At Wizard World Augie brought along a BFG that is carried by RFT's in the video games...
it's really different...not yet complete...he is still working on it...

maybe I can get him to build me one...

You can see it on our table too..in front...although you can't see it very well...
