It's needed, we should also try to make a patch as soon as possible. I'm personally not big on patches, but it would be nice to be able to give one back when you get patches from other people.

Hi Camilla & Johanna Very Happy

Just wanted to stop in and see how you two are doing? Is life back to normal, or are you still having 'con blues' now that Jedi Con is over? My life is back to normal...but I still look at the pictures from the con almost everyday and remember all of the fun we had Cool It was awesome meeting you at Jedi Con...can't wait to hang with you two at the next event Mr. Green

I always miss the cons, but I guess I have to find something else to look forward to. Otherwise life is getting back to normal, whatever that is.

Jenny! Very Happy
*hugs*
Life is getting back to normal - though it has taken it's time and I hate it when such things end... It was tough having to go home sunday night. Especially when Anne wrote to me around 1 am, telling me that everyone was still in the hotel bar - I felt so alone right then... Crying or Very sad

And I'm guilty of looking at the pics as well...

It was so great to meet you and I really, really hope we'll meet again!

Oh, and once again, thanks a lot for the Skittles Mr. Green
(Don't worry, I haven't eaten them all - yet)

With the fear of being a pain in the rear, I will try once more:

Has anyone come up with any ideas for a logo or can we use the one I made?

I may sound a little impatient, but I would really love to see this change happen.
Especially since I know that around 3-5 Danish girls are about to apply for membership....

How about just a wampa, and the text?

I have an idea for how to build on Camilla's proposal, but I don't know my way around vector-drawing programs at all, and I just get frustrated with paint programs.
I have also been looking at various space patches (US and Soviet) for inspiration, but not gotten anywhere.

just an idea: a round patch with flag(s) colour is a bit boring, in my opinion.

Look at the european bases, half has the usual rebel "bird" parted in flag colors/design (Italy, Yavin, Brits).
French and spanish does a little better using flag colors in a somewhat different pattern, but are still a round patch with the "bird" on a striped background.
Unusual, but I don't like it much, the "geographic map" of Benelux.
Only polish Eagle outpost has a different look, not entirely tied to the localization.

So, a patch in a different shape, and not limited to geography/flags may be interesting.
The Wampa Cave theme is a SW-theme most bases doesn't have.
In europe, only Italy can use something like this, the "Lake" theme, if only our patch is not already the tricolor bird that look too much like the logo of a xenofobe fascist-inspired political party in Italy...

Another thing bay be the "cross", all flags in scandinavia are a cross with different color scheme, so may be a flag parted in four like an heraldic crest, or in a shape of a large cross (swiss flag kind).
Other ideas, as Nordic outpost/base will cover four countries (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland) something in a square or romboidal (diamond) shaped. Midwest base patch is pentagonal because of five US states in.

If I have time, I'll try to put down some ideas.
To paint it, I can only prepare a .dwg Autocad design, it's the only vectorial stuff I can use.

just a first run of shapes and crosses ideas:

for the 4-side shape, I tried square, diamonds, and keystone (there is also a 28th Infantry division, U.S.Army, that use a similar keystone patch).

Crosses, I tried the idea of a center cross, and, for the square/keystone, a sort of off center cross. Diamond with a cross off center doesn't seems an idea.

For the heralidic idea, I need some info about images: I know that sweden military uses three yellow krown on a blue field (a shield, but a round field on aircraft); Denmark and Norway reigns has something similar? Like the three lions of Great Britain? the Polish eagle?

Finland is a republic, right? Any insigna? In the military, they have only a round in light blue/white/light blue and no specific crest/insigna, as far as I know.

Working also on other idea...

EDIT: very rough photoshop cut/pasting

T'm thinking about Wampa sticking out from a side much like the Kubrick's "clockwork orange" film logo.

Obi Anne is the history buff in this outpost, so I am sure that she can tell a whole lot about the origins and conflicts around the three chrowns. In short: they are not appropriate.

Patches / ideas for inspiration:

- The mission patch from the mission with the first Swedish man in space:

A Rebel-alliance craft instead of Space Shuttle, and the colors from our national flags in stripes as the exhaust. Maybe not three or five stripes per flag, but just as many stripes per flag as there are colors in it.
Back in the 80's, SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) used to carry the colors of the member countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark - not Finland though) as stripes on the underbelly near the front hatch.

- Like Camilla's proposal with four flags in one inside the Rebel bird logo, but with the lines curved following the contours of the logo. As if the logo was a bubble lens distoring the image.
By rearranging the flags, we don't need any black lines dividing them.

- Rebel "bird" in the center. The national flags radiating out from the center.
However, I am afraid that any circular flag scheme would remind too much of the Nordic Imperial logo.

- Just a Wampa in the center. You can get some drawing inspiration from this cartoon.

- There are deleted scenes of ESB showing that there is a room on Echo Base that contains Wampas. When the base is evacuated, C-3PO rips away the warning sign fom the room. When the Empire is searching through the base, a bunch of Snowtroopers enter the room... and you can guess the rest.
How about using the warning sign?
An image of the door, sign and C-3PO.

The "warning: wampa" sign may be interesting Laughing

About using all national flags colours, just one problem: more colours, more elaborate design, more money needed.

In italy, number of "needle holes" and number of different coliur threads govern price for patrches and embroidery.
A tiny line on a contrast color all around change price of a good 10%

EDIT: some other ideas, just as "food for though"
- -

The EDIT strikes back
Oh-uh Embarassed mis-read - I didn't understand the the idea of a flag border is too imps... scrape the border of above.
- based upon 34th infantry division, U.S.Army
Notably, the 34inf.div was a National Guard Outfit from the hearth of USA near the canadian border, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa.
The patch has a shape of a pot (like the druid's pot used by Panoramix in Asterix's comic, just to explain) with a dead cattle head,

Othewr two U.S.Army Units tied with north: 171ns and 172nd Infantry Brigades, stationed in Alaska

Another "flags"-idea: How about a diamond-shaped patch with a circle in the center and pieces of flags in each corner?

I got the idea from this Top Gun patch:

I fell in love with the wampa head patch! It might be hard to get some text in it, and since there are no flags something identifying us as the Nordic outpost would be good.

Johan's diamond with a circle was pretty nice as well.
