Well....the Costumbase Hoth Rebel Trooper costume came in the mail yesterday...
I am both impressed and horrified....

The hat is not a hat...but a visor....

The Jacket has a hood...and the hood is supposed to be the "hat" when combined with the visor - I guess - and then there is this other piece that attaches to the hood when it is up and that is supposed to be the hat's "apron" that covers the neck. There was no such hood on the HRS....they had a hat....not a hood and visor...

The whole CostumeBase visor with flap and hood thing is very puzzling. Confused Shocked
If you take the sewing time and materials needed for the visor plus the fully lined hood and add them together, it can't be that much time difference to make the correct hat. So why make it wrong?

The PRC/HK based manufacturers of CB costumes base most of their items off existing real world items which they produce for other companies.

Some of the first "jedi" garments to appear were nothing more than multi-layered martial art clothing with accessories.

I guess "close enough, for most enough" is their policy.

As long as they don't claim to be up to legion standards for membership, nor leave that impression with the consumer.

For the average fan, dressing up a mannequin for a static display along with their collection, or atending a convention/'costume' event the relative small outlay to achieve the 'desired' efffect would be attractive.

As to the suitability for RL membership? Perhaps guidance/assistance in ways to improve on particular items to bring them up to the minimal level required...

Extremely good point..
CB usually does mention "cosplay" in some of their "ads"....
they are not intended to be screen accurate...
they are just like "upgraded" Halloween costumes...

I was not ready to condemn them unless I had an actual example in my hands...
as we have found out so very many times....photos really don't tell you enough...

again...
they did some things sooooooo right when it came to execution....and some things soooooooo very wrong....

it is just a shame that they don't use more appropriate fabric...but again...they are just addressing the "cosplay" faction

It's a shame the fabric is all wrong, as there are parts of the CB Hoth that look like with some work, could be OK.
But no use doing modifications if the fabric is wrong, no matter how much work you do, it will still look cosplay/halloween and not stepped off the movie set.
