I always figured it looked like some kind of a cargo strap buckle. |

How big are the dowel rods that go in the belt? And it looks like there are 6 on each side, correct?
What size of strapping do you use for the dowels? |

I used a one inch gray strap, and my "mini flares" are about 2 inches long. _________________ Proud U.S. Army Veteran

3/8th or 1/4 inch. It's been a while, so I forget... about the size of a standard octagonal #2 yellow pencil. _________________ Proud U.S. Army Veteran

If you look at the mini flares in the Vis Dic photo of Luke, as well as various screen caps, to me, they look slightly longer than the belt is wide. I made mine 2 1/4", but I've also seen them longer. I think it's kind a matter of personal preference, there's no exact measurements in the standards.

We are talking the leg flares, themselves, right? I thought them to be about 3 to 4 inches in length. They are a hair bigger than the leg bandolier is wide. I am of the impression that the leg flares are at or around 1/2 inch, maybe 3/4 of an inch in diameter.

Yes, the leg flares are 4" long, the last question was about the mini flares on the belt. To me, the leg flares look to be the same length at the width of the flare holder.
I believe the ones that Kenny makes are 7/8" in diameter, I'll be using 2 cut down CO2 cartridges (with a wood dowel inside stuck between them) which are 3/4". |

A few people have asked this question recently, so I took some pictures:
The buckle sewn to the belt (Side facing out)
The buckle sewn to the belt (Side facing in towards you)
Mini flares from wooden dowels & 1 inch gray belt
Threading the belt
Pulled tight as seen in the above Luke picture from the visual guide
Once threaded the belt stays locked by the buckle for the most part, but some people sew a small bit of velcro on the inside to hold it tight. _________________ Proud U.S. Army Veteran

Even though it's canon, I'm not sewing my buckle on. The belt doesn't stay tight. The buckle looks like it's designed to have two straps going through it, that's how it stays tight.
This way, I won't have to use any Velcro; it will be easier to adjust to keep the mini flares centered as I lose weight (which I'm hoping/planning to do); and if I decided to do a Technician, I won't have to buy another buckle, I can use the same one.

I've done it this way the few times I've worn the belt (usually just wear my holster), but not once has my belt stayed on just by threading the two ends through it. I've had to safety pin it shut to keep it from going anywhere. _________________ - Hawkbat Squadron - Sabre Wing - Western New York -
