Hello! Major spoilers ahead so stop reading now if you haven't seen the last episode of The Mandalorian. I am going to attempt to build the Jedi Robes he wears in the famous scene and will document my progress/ask for advice here. I've done this previously with Obi-Wan/Generic Jedi with moderate success so here is another attempt at making patterns. I'm going to base most of the work on my previous thread.
Here is what I believe the components to be.
Inner Tunic
Crossed right over left. Kind of looks like a black cotton plain weave. Sleeves like Obi-Wan being more fitted toward the end, even with the "bunching" at the cuff. I'm pretty sure it only goes to waist level. There appears to be a double hem kind of thing.
Outer Tunic
Crossed left over right. Appears to be a cotton sateen maybe. I'm going with a fabric with decent "body" because it maintains a shape . Sleeves also like Obi-Wan having a wide arm hole and tapering toward the end but without a cuff. I think this only goes to waist level as well. Wide hem just like the prequel Jedi.
Vest/Tabards/Obi
Crosses right over left. I agree with the last post that the arm hole is a slit extending to the waist (just a really long arm hole). I'm going to be assume the remaining top layers are made from suiting wool. They're just so smooth and flowy. I have no idea about lining for anything but it's either simple muslin or blind hem. I'll use muslin for simplicity. I am almost positive the vest is "vented" just lateral to the tabard and on the side. It's the kind of venting that used to be on 1700s frocks where there's more material in the vent. The vest also swoops down in the back. Tabards extend about a "belt buckle length" past the vest. They wrap around the neck like ROTJ/Darth Maul. This is the most complicated piece.
Pants
Pants are certainly different. No accent or even side seam. Much looser fitting. I would guess sateen or the wool suiting.
Gloves
Same seams as ROTJ, same glove. Seams look identical.
Boots
I'm pretty sure they're plain riding boots. You can see the hidden zipper in some shots. They don't have the ribbon detail on the sides like ROTJ though.
Belt
Cleaner everything, only has the hook for the saber, no pouches. Same style. Yes the belt clip randomly changes at the end.
Cloak
Black wool twill with small closure with blind hem. Hood has similar seam to Obi-Wan.
Lightsaber
Very extensive discussion at the RPF. TLDR it may be a fan-made variant that won't be possible to find. "Creepy Uncle" will get you darn close. See discussion.
Yes I watched that scene a billion times and yes I enjoyed each viewing. Pictures with justification included. Feel free to correct me if you disagree with anything.
Sewing begins tonight! |

You're right on indeed!
And yes, the cloak is confirmed as black by the costume designer herself.
So the real question is....
What vendor will be first to market with a black cloak? |

I’m satisfied with the first layer. I’m taking it easy for a week then onto the outer tunic!

The closure for the cloak is a simply hook and eyes closure. Just more obvious than normally seen in SW costumes.
(P.s. I personally think you started posting spoilers on the forum a bit early; you saw the pictures before you had the change to stop reading again).
Good luck with your build. _________________

Has it been said that this will be its own costume standard or will it be a variant of a different standard? _________________ Community Member of the Year 2019

Given that Jabba's Palace Luke and Throne Room Luke are very similar costumes but have their own standards, I'd anticipate that this costume would end up with its own standard.
Ultimately it's up to the KJO DCO and the LMO, but standard proposals can be made by any member.

Yes, I’ve written a few of them for NTTL costumes so I’m familiar with the process. What I was mostly asking was if this is even a costume variant that would be accepted. Since we never see a *full back* ( without the robe etc), it can go either way. I’d rather know now and not waste time and money on a costume that won’t be approvable vs a costume that will ie; RotJ Luke. _________________ Community Member of the Year 2019

I’d imagine the cloak would just be a requirement (instead of an add on like Jabba’s) and stand as the back of the costume. Luke’s costumes in Last Jedi had a lot of cloaks or ponchos covering backs so I would assume this would be handled the same! _________________ “Skywalker, still looking to the horizon”

Not sure if it was required or not as still no standard draft proposal but I submitted with it and was approved yesterday. _________________ Community Member of the Year 2019

Not sure if this helps, but I put this edit together as well
Boosted lighting and contrast and cut out all the "non-luke" scenes for a better view of the costume for people to review.

There will be a standard, but these things often take a little time. It's clearly its own thing as it has different cuts from ROTJ.
Regarding the ROTS costumes they ought to all be one big standard since Luke use the same base for all of his outfits in that movie. It's just a bunch of variants where he switch out extra items. _________________
