Almost done with this! Looking for some feedback and have a couple of quick questions...

Over the weekend, I made the code cylinders (3D printed + rub n buff), and the hopefully accurate patch.

I need to finish up the vest- namely, topstitching and closing up the bottom. I was going for the Toryn Farr open-vest look but I'm having issues with the lining folding over slightly and being exposed. I *think* that will be resolved with topstitching, but I'm wondering if I need to alter my plans and make it a vest that closes in the front. (Also just posting to make sure there aren't other issues that I've missed)

For the communicator badge-can the squares be painted or are plastic caps preferred? And would blue, red, orange, blue be an acceptable color scheme for the squares?

Thank you! Snowspeeder 2

Those code cylinders look suprisingly good, for rub-n-buff on 3D prints!

My comm badge squares were painted, and weren't a problem.

Hi! So sorry- holiday prep had me off the forum last week.

Ok! So to answer your questions_

1. I think you're probably ok with the vest- if you look at the refs of Torryn, you can see hers does the same thing:

As do the vests on the other women in this shot:

2. The squares should be raised, I've seen ones where they are part of the main print, and I've seen ones where they are buttons. It is easier to paint them when they are buttons, IMO.

3. The color scheme should be fine! I've seen several used on refs:

-blue, orangey yellow, blue, red
-red, red, blue. blue
-blue, red, red, blue

This is what mine looks like:

Thanks, kman! There was also some XTC-3D and filler primer on before the rub n buff, forgot to mention Laughing

Last week's snow and the promise of a "realistic" action shot was the catalyst to finally get me to submit this costume!

Here were my submission photos:

The feedback I got was super helpful -- the boot buckles needed to be altered from silver to black or removed/swapped out with velcro or a snap. Fortunately, an easy fix:

My judge also mentioned that eventually the standard will be updated a light tan jumpsuit, which makes sense since they do look more tan-ish/warm than cool gray.

If I did it all again I probably would've used a second layer of batting. I realized that in pictures the quilting on the front doesn't always look as defined as I'd like... but I did have a few more run-ins with this vest than expected and I am not in a hurry to give it another go just yet Laughing
