So it turns out the person who made my flare holder is going to send me a smaller size one when they send out my refitted flight suit so hopefully the new one will sit snugger but I still potentially foresee needing to do something like this on the new one.
Now I have to see about drilling out the rivets I used to attach the flares to the other flare holder I have.
Still rumbling around in my head some ideas for when I do a helmet hopefully this winter - seen a place that does custom decals and was going to contact them about creating some that would match up with the Maryland flag (perhaps the black/yellow on each side and the red/white crosses along the Mohawk) - will see. |

That's great news! Charles has a Maryland themed helmet too. The flag really lends itself to helmet designs. _________________

I believe we have at least 2, possibly 3 MD Flag themed helmets in Chesapeake Squadron. It is such a wonderfully iconic flag, it is hard to resist.
If you haven't found these yet, this thread has links to the files for the XWing Helmet templates. They are useful for doodling out your ideas on, even if you intend to have someone else do the painting and decals, so you can get a solid idea of what elements you want where.

Added bonus - you aren't limited to just one helmet, and they aren't required for approval. Helmets are super fun to paint and design, and can be quite fun to collect _________________ ~ Jessica Lynch ~

Those templates are great!
I've printed out a few copies of the version with the 4 images and worked on sketching out my ideas in pencil so far.
I am looking at an example of a Jaldine Gerams helmet and making some modification to that format to incorporate the Maryland flag aspects I am thinking of (red/white cross along the mowhawk and yellow/black in patches on each side).
At least I can work on fine tuning my idea now - I'm not a design person but I do work in CADD so the spatial reasoning is at least there!

Hi there
It does look like the front of the vest is a bit longer than it should be - the Blue Squad X-Wing should end about the same place as the OT XWing - looking at the source material and the standard, you might have to modify the flack vest a bit?
http://newsite.rebellegion.com/blue-squadron-x-wing-pilot/
Snippet from the Flack Vest Standard Section
Quote: | The top of the front panel should sit roughly just below the collar and the back the back slightly lower. Note that this vests sits higher than the Original Trilogy X-wing pilot vest.
The bottom of the front and back panels are even and should completely cover the chest while not extending toward the waist any further than two or three inches past the armpit. |
I know the Flack Vest, and getting it to sit properly, was one of the most complicated parts of getting my Pilot approved. It looks like Rogue One U-Wing pilots have an almost identical flack vest to the one that the X-Wing Pilots have.
In theory - you could likely tack the extra bit up to the inside of the vest to hide it, so that the end is the 2-3 inches past the arm pit the Standard requires? I know of a few pilots who had to shorten the bottom of their vests for approval - but this is the first time I have seen that much extra fabric there... _________________ ~ Jessica Lynch ~

Thanks for the feedback.
I too am curious if this was done in the u-wing format versus the x-wing format for blue squadron.
I've been studying images and, for example, this Calum Gram image for a u-wing looks like what I have:
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Calum_Gram
I indeed might remove that lower section which would have the vest at a more correct length and retain it, so it could be reattached. Would be easy enough to get a u-wing chestbox to have a different option. |

I actually just heard back from the person who made my vest and she said that yes, the extra part on the flak vest I took the pictures of is for having for a u-wing and yes, removing the bottom section would make it correct for an x-wing, so now I at least know!
She said a lot of blue squadron people ask for that as this enables them to only need a different chest box and helmet for a full other outfit |

Hello!
The Chest Tube is always an adventure to find a place to put it. A lot of people stuff theirs in their pocket. I've had to do that on some troops when the magnet I used escaped...
Quote: | One end of the hose should attach at the left-bottom of the chest box and the other end should connect to the left side of the suit above the belt with a type of black elbow joint. |
That is the only guideline from the standards - it should sit above the belt.
Personally, I have magnets that keep it in place. There is a tiny pocket inside my flight suit that I try to remember to put the plate inside before zipping up. The black elbow joint mentioned above has magnets on it that then keep the tube in place in line with the plate inside my suit.
Sometimes the magnets are stronger than the glue holding the elbow joint onto the tubing, but that is another story. _________________ ~ Jessica Lynch ~

Congrats and welcome to the flight deck, pilot! Make sure you post in the thread in RLSC to get access to the Pilot part of the forums.
