Hello there,

i tryed to read every single post here and i hope i have not overseen a thing.

I know that there is a army jacket that can be used for EPIV Yavin Officers by altering it at the yoke. I found jackets of that kind a lot.

The Jacket General Draven wears is a bit different. I tryed to get more information, but i failed. My best guess ist an old generation 3 Army Jacket from Vietnam War era. But im not quiet sure. Are there other suggestions?

Are there any sources what material is used to make the yoke?

Hope only my bad english is the reason i don't find mor information about this jacket.

I looked up the member officers, there is no one with this jacket i could ask.

Thank you for any piece of information!

Best of wishes
Leo

Hallo Leo,

Hello Leo,

nobody has sewn General Draven's jacket yet. There are a couple of characters in Rogue One that wear the same type of jacket. I do not know which real-world jacket it was based on. I assume that it was specifically made for Rogue One. Some of the details have similarities with the officer jackets Ep. 5 The Empire Strikes Back.

Hey Patricia,

i try to continue on english, even if its hard for me. Thank you for your feedback.

I'm assuming there has to be a base for the jacket because there are so many of them. The jacket doesn't look as stiff as the other officers' BDU jackets and the pockets have no buttons or "slits", so I specifically looked for field jackets with these pockets. The breast pockets don't seem straight.

There are variants of the m64 field jacket with these slits and without visible buttons that have this "casual" style.

I'll keep looking and hope someone knows something Smile

Personally, I think that Draven's jacket was specifically made for Rogue One and that they gave it some details that we know from General Rieekan's Hoth officer jacket in order to make it seem familiar and Star Warsy to us.

I do not think that General Draven's jacket is similar enough to an M-65 field jacket that it would make sense to modify one. You would have to put a lot of work into the modification. I think the easiest thing would be to make a new jacket from scratch based on the screencaps of Draven and the proposed costume standard that we made.

I looked at more screencaps of Draven and the other characters with the same jacket. I think the fabric is a cotton drill fabric (German: Baumwoll Köper/Twill). The fabric probably has a weight of about 355/lfm (245g/m²). The color is probably is beige or tan. It looks too light to be khaki but that is only my opinion. RebelLady or tenebris have a better eye for colors than I do. I hope they will offer you some advice too.

I have actually made the mock up for this (I'm just redoing parts for some of my fit issues, having no center back seam is difficult for me.).

There is a lot going on in this jacket and I'd say it needs to be scratch built....I mean I'm all for ideas of conversion, but i actually think it maybe more work? The pockets will definitely need to be scratch made as they are very distinctly shaped, it also has no shoulder seam, the front and back yoke are one piece.

Echoing Patricia, Its definitely a twill cotton.......I was looking at a beigey-tan colour with weathering and a slight tea stain.

The base of the jacket has slightly dropped shoulders giving the shape a looser slightly oversize fit. The pockets are attached at an angle and the front has a zip beneath the central placket.

I've not identified a base pattern for guys yet, but we can have a look.

I started with a very simple pattern and added the yoke in the front and back first.

Then adding the quilting in the yoke and piping. The sleeve needs to be divided into 3 sections with the elbow section quilted.

Then adding pockets, i brought the bottom one up a little and reduced the top one since i took these. That bottom pocket is very angular you can see the pattern work for it.

I absolutely 100% agree that this was a scratch built jacket. The costumes we are seeing from the Disney era movies are being made by costume production teams with large budgets and while the costume designers may draw inspiration from real world examples or repurpose bits and bobs as greeblies, almost all of the pieces are custom made for the movie. As Empathy mentioned, she's working through pattering and building the jacket and one of the things we're hoping to get together are lists of base patterns and directions for how to modify the pattern for our detachment costumes.

@tenebris: Wow, your mock-up looks great. I cannot wait to see the finished jacket.

@Forceleo: I hope you and your friend can make the jacket. It would be cool to have a Draven style officer in German Base Yavin.

We try the figure out measurements and after that we will order some samples for the material. Then we will decide if we face this hell of a jacket Evil or Very Mad

I know you suggest twill cotton, gut we are not sure with the right color, if you have any advice beside of "Sand or light tan medium weight cotton or similar fabric" from the description would be really helpful, because we never attemted to make such a accurate thing.

I appreciate your advice so far very much! Thank you all!

I will pull out all my twill samples and we can do some side by sides.

I would make a test run in a cheap fabric before cutting into to your real fabric if you dont feel confident.

Here are two cotton twill fabrics that I have been using for my Rogue One costumes. The beige is 100% cotton twill fabric that I used for the pants of my EA Battlefront desert trooper and the tan contrast of my blue Scarif Marine jacket. The khaki is a 65% Polyester/35% cotton twill blend that I am using for my Cassian Andor style Scarif Marine pants.

THIS!! Mock ups in an inexpensive fabric save soooooo much heartache. It will let you make adjustments to your pattern before cutting into more expensive fabric.
