after a break, a major car wreck, physical therapy, a flood and assorted other things I managed to get this knocked out. I had to go dig through tubs to find my drill bits. I only needed my drill, drill bit, screwdriver and wrench to build this. I did use some hot glue to stick the foam into the helmet.

Studio creations did a wonderful job on this. Ive also built a TK560 helmet of this type.

my total build time was well under two hours, and that included doing laundry, feeding animals and watching TV.

The parts all come trimmed. Minor fitting may be necessary and I trued up some angles, and made the commbox fit better. Hard to believe it all fits in that little box.

and done! the rod is plastic rod, and isnt quite as pokey-pokey as welding rod.

So here we are, from Oct 31 2016 when we last talked about this, to today November 15 2020. in two years a LOT has happened. a LOT.

The shirts I looked at are out now that we know the shirts dont get a cuff. I will have to have that sourced and made for me.
I will also be making the vest.
I will use the pants I have and see if they work for approval. if not, well ill figure that out.
I have my DH-17 in my holster wet forming.

So here is my question. I Suck at leather dye. ive tried it, and ive wasted product, but I simply cannot afford to pay someone for one of those fancy rigs, that just are too small to fit me anyway. I have a holster thats about five years old, veg tanned leather. I have a strip of latigo for the belt that is probably close to ten years old, also veg tanned leather. those have been in my closet for years, so its time to get them out.
The RFT colors called for are Range Tan and Canyon tan, and there is not a lot of difference between the two.
Belt and buckle
Solid leather or vinyl – no holes or decorations.
Belt width should be 1 3/4 to 2″ wide in canyon or range tan colour
2″ buckle can be rectangular, octagonal or oval.

Ive watched a bunch of tutorials, none of them agree on how to dye the belt. Ill have like 3 inches of leather on the end of the belt that I can use to test. if any one has advice on how to dye this leather without ruining it ( all former attempts were horrible failures) please let me know. I can repaint plastic, but i cant un dye leather.

I am not familiar with that brand of leather dye so I am not sure how to use it. I painted leather with a couple of different brands but the only one that really worked for me is "Kaps Professional - Super Color Professional". It was really easy to use. I just had to clean the leather pouches, which were very dirty and moldy, before I used the leather paint. You can either apply the color with a small sponge or a small paintbrush. The color cognac would probably work best for an RFT belt and holster. My "Kaps Professional - Super Color Professional" leather paint did not come with a "preparer" fluid so it might have been in the paint itself.

Haven't heard of that one but now I have the link.

I re-wetformed my holster last night, now the rifle slides in and out smoothly. I'm going to set the belt length today and trim as needed- I will use the offcut to test on.

I figured something out on my shirt. I really like the color of the seafarer shirt. Not blue. Not grey. If I have a chance I will work with it tonight.

pushing forward with m bibbed shirt tonihgt. Its almost 1am, and Ive been at it a while, but I have what I have wanted for several years now.
This is a US Navy Seafarer Chambray shirt with a reinforced bib so the button line doesnt show.
The shirt bib will stop above my belt as the originals did. its basically a copy of my Resistance Comm Tech shirt.

This reboot topic is dated 2014. Before that, I was trying to find USN shirts, or A SHIRT that would work, that would fit me, that did not have white thread or button holes in the collar. That eluded me until 2014 when I found the shirt, but things changed, and stuff happened. Now, as of tonight, I am more suited up than I have been since I joined this forum. My X wing was like 9 years in the making * I made and had approved 21 others in the meantime*, so why not get my RFT done and finally get to use that helmet.
Ive also talkd to one of our troopers about making the RFT hat like discussed in this topic from 2010. It would be a nice conversation starter, while not found in the current Standard.

The pants are Rothco grey which have the unfortunate ability to cast tan under any kind of lighting other than sunlight. The green tape shows the 2" gap between the bottom of the bib and the top of the pants.
