That's the same pic as on Dreadnaught Industries' web site. |

I don't know what they charge... ... but it probably is... and the site I get many of my props propably has a deal with them... _________________ Grey Starr - TD-2519... Hollywood Han Solo... |

Sounds like you're talking about Wilco Models. |

Lori's post is not a link. This is. Main page -> Props -> Armor.
I mentioned the price earlier. $87 including US shipping (from Texas).
As I understand, Wilco Models and Dreadnaught Industries are two companies, run by the same guys.
BOBATAFF's kit is apparently a recast of DI's, and I think they might have some agreement between them. |

FYI: BobaTaff has been BANNED from RPF for recasting Dreadnaught Industries' X-Wing helmets without permission. No agreement has been made with DI. |

When he had removed all of his posts from the thread, I PM'd him on the RPF and asked about what happened. Not long before the ban was put in place, he sent me his email address and asked me to contact him but to do so in secret. That PM confirmed to me that he was going to do business with recast parts anyway, so from my view he clearly deserved to be banned.
It's a shame, really. Helmet makers are scarce in Europe. I was thinking of having him cast a few custom pieces of mine also. |

I must confess that I had "won" a X-wing pilot helmet kit on eBay, which I received today. I did not buy it from BOBATAFF, but once I had inspected the pieces and the box it came in, it did not take much detective work to confirm twice over that it had been from him originally. (My bid was laid on Sep 14th. Bobataff was banned on Sep 18th)
The quality of the kit is quite low. It was not made from 3mm HIPS as advertised, but in much thinner plastic. The surface has "orange peel" and a few bubbles. There is also some warpage near edges and corners. The decals are a joke -- a computer printout from a dithered low-res image with jagged edges.
I am not too inexperienced with prop building, so I think will be able to make a passable helmet out of it anyway with a little bit of work.
My personal helmet will be a conversion of a real fiberglass helmet, though. |

Out of curiousity, how is a DI helmet kit compared to Richies? _________________ Liberty Squadron XO -- X-Wing Pilot

In my opinion, the DI kit is made of a thicker plastic than Richie's. Makes it feel a bit sturdier. My only complaint with the DI kit is that the mohawk is a bit too tall. _________________

DI has actually fixed the mohawk. The newer ones that I've seen are the right height. _________________

These are side by side shots of a Richies, and an older D.I. with the tall mohawk: Helmet Gallery
Woofer and I got our helmets from Richie's at the same time, and the plastic is really thick on ours compared to some I've seen. _________________ Proud U.S. Army Veteran
