My Yavin Operations Trooper and Yavin Operations Officer were approved this morning so I thought it was time to share my progress of my Scarif Marine. I am going for a more used look on this costume so I am recycling clothing items. The pants are my favorite blue Tru-Spec BDU pants. They are nicely washed out because I wore them a lot.

The cap is made out of the same used overall that I took apart for my husband's cap. I wanted to make a blue cap but cannot get the fabric right now. All my sources are sold out and have problems restocking because of the corona pandemic. The inside of the cap will have a brown linen layer because I ran out of large fabric pieces. I hope it looks ok when it is done. If not I can still make a blue cap when the fabric stores have the fabric again. I am using the pattern from FullMetalFantasy on Etsy. I only modified the shape of the top shield.

The jacket is a used khaki Tru-Spec BDU jacket. I am using this jacket because the CS calls for tan blood stripes but an action pleat. I have already shortened the torso and sleeves. I also removed the pockets and collar for farther processing. I am modeling it after my Yavin Operations Trooper/Officer jacket.

I lost some weight and have to make a new belt because my Yavin Operations Trooper/Officer belt would look asymmetric on this costume.

For this costume, I am using the second barrel of my NERF blaster.

I am currently taking apart a used tan Ranger vest to get material for my flak vest. I already have different sizes of webbing because of other projects.

I started making a fake waistband by folding and sewing down edges. Now the BDU jacket has the same length as my other Rogue One jacket. I also finished the first set of blood stripes for the sleeves. I am planning on inserting them the same way I did it in the other jacket.

I finished the second sleeve, the waistband, and the collar. The zipper is only pinned in and still has to be sewn in. I do not know if I should add the pockets or not. I cannot copy the exact layout because I do not have enough material left for the second layer on the yoke. I could make the columns and the three pockets. I am thinking of leaving the jacket this way and just keep the vest closed all the time. Here is a photo of the jacket in comparison to my first one.

I finished the jacket this morning. I added the zipper and some hidden snap buttons on the waistband and under there collar. I am just going to leave off the pockets and keep the flak vest closed at all times. I was planning on using this costume as my cold weather costume anyway.

Here are two M58 water bottle pouches that I bought last year when I made our Hasbro Rebel Vanguard costumes. I quickly found out that they did not really look good on the Vanguard belt but might fit a different costume. Only after restarting my research for the Scarif Marine, I realized that they are perfect for that. The third pouch is a French grenade pouch. I do not know if my husband or I will use it for one of our current Scarif Marines or save it for a later version. I found a whole collection of cheep pouches on eBay and other sellers. I thought I rather purchase them now before the sellers figure out that we need them for our costumes and make them unaffordable. They should be arriving in the next couple of days.

The Danish pouches just arrived. These were the cheapest pouches I ordered but the most difficult to find.

It is time to let the cat out of the bag. I decided to make two Scarif Marines for myself with the items I already have. You will not belive it but they are both small budget Marines. The only things I have bought for these are the pouches and one extra PLCE belt, which I all found very cheap. My husband is getting the expensive one.

My first Marine is a generic Scarif Marine and will have the following items:
    - a blue cap, my husband gave me two of his older work shirts for that,
    - 3D-printed goggles from Thingiverse
    - 3D-printed Hoth radio from Thingiverse
    - 3D-printed2-MAL Comlink from Thingiverse
    - blue cargo pants
    - tan or brown vest
    - khaki jacket with tan blood stripes
    - tan PLCE belt with a roll pin buckle
    - some pouches but I do not know which yet
    - my Jyn Erso Nerf blaster
    - my Signal Intelligence Technician boots and cuffs
    - Cassian Andor style personal transponder from my Yavin Operations Trooper

My second Marine is a specific Scarif Marine from the Movie and will have the following items:
    - a khaki cap
    - 3D-printed goggles from Thingiverse
    - 3D-printed Hoth radio from Thingiverse
    - khaki cargo pants
    - tan vest
    - tan jacket with brown blood stripes from my Yavin Operation Trooper
    - tan PLCE belt with the second type of buckle
    - a danish pouch on the left hip
    - Yugoslavian Mess kit on the right hip
    - my Signal Intelligence Technician boots and cuffs
    - personal transponder made out of Worbla
    - Hasbro DH-17 from my RFT for now but will be updated to the correct Rogue One DH-17 riffle when I can afford it

Reference for the second Marine:

My second PLCE belt and the M58 kidney pouches arrived. Oh boy, the kidney pouches stink. They are going to stay on the balcony for a while. Now I am only waiting for the Yugoslavian mess kit and the Greek Thompson mag pouch.

😆 There's nothing quite like that surplus canvas stink is there?! We should put together a pinned list of tips and tricks for cleaning and improving the odors of surplus items.

Really impressed with your build and the fun "secret" second build!

I usually just wash the canvas items a couple of times in the washing machine on a low temperature. I think I had to wash my Czech backpacks four times before I could stand having them in my apartment.

It was more of an unplanned built than a secret one. When I started to order the pouches about a week ago I realized that I could easily make two or three Marines with the items that I already own or have ordered and my sewing skills. For instance, I am trading in a self-made black imperial officer cap for the 3D-printed Thingiverse items. I had some extra fabric lying around for that. I did not have to invest a dime only my time. Then I just had to find a Marine in my references that fit the bill. Smile

Then when my husband sorted out some of his older work clothing he gave me 4 dark blue shirts that I can use for our caps. This is even better than the new fabric I wanted to purchase because they are washed out similarly to my pants. It should work perfectly for my first Marine. A hat out of new fabric with used pants would have looked strange.

Inventing the extra time to find inexpensive pouches and belts also paid off because I could order more pouches with my budget. Just my husband's Gorka 3 anorak and the grenade vest cost more than all the rest together. I thought about making the anorak myself but I could not find the correct color of fabrics because there are shortages due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

My favorite site for references https://starwarsscreencaps.com/ now has screencaps in 4K 2160p quality. The colors are different to the Blue Ray but the details are better.

I also searched the internet for behind the scenes photos of better quality. I was able to get screencaps of the DH-17 riffle with better details.

I did some work on my two belts and my husband's belt. I had two Bundeswehr buckles and one roll pin buckle for three large tan PLCE belts. The belt was almost too short for my husband so am using the longest one with the Bundeswehr buckle for him. I had the BW buckles laying around because I used their belt straps for our Rebel Vanguard belt. The regular 5cm webbing kept slipping through the roll pin buckles.

Here is how I made the rebel buckle. First I took a BW buckle like the one I am holding in the photo and added a layer Worbla. Then I cut a 6cm by 7cm rectangle and two circles with a 3cm diameter out of cardboard. I glued the two circles together to make it thicker. Then I glued it in the center of the rectangle. Next, I glued the three glass things on to the circle. After that, I heated for Worbla for a bottom layer and placed the cardboard on it. Then I put another layer Worbla on top and pressed it to the shapes. Then I heated everything again with a heat fan and placed everything onto the buckle. I smuthed the edges together and let it cool down. The only thing left is to paint them silver.

I also had to do some changes to the belt straps. The PLCE was to wide for the belt buckles. First I took the two layers of the belts straps apart so that I only had the special inner layer left. Then I added 5cm wide tan webbing to each side. I doubled the thickness of the webbing by folding it and then sewing it together so that it would not slip out of the buckles. I added 30cm webbing to each side of the belts. Ralf only has 5cm overlap with the PLCE webbing where mine has 10cm to make it shorter than his.
