I received my Spoonflower fabric earlier this week and now I am searching for the correct fabric for the tunic and pants.

Since I am not located in the USA Joanns is not an option for me. To avoid high shipping costs and custom fees I am hoping to find the fabric locally (or at least in Europe)

I am really looking to receive feedback for the colour of the tunic. The standards mention brick/rust red and when thinking of that, I come across many fabrics with a brown/orange tone, instead of red. I personally love those colours, but they seem so very different from what most other costumers use.

I am absolutely in love with this Rust colour chiffon for my lining (sorry the description is in Dutch):
https://www.budgetstoffen.nl/chiffon-vintage-roest-42.html

It is the middle one in this photo:

The next step is the fabric for the tunic.
I found this brique bubble chiffon crepe with a little stretch in two colours:
https://www.bottger.nl/brique-crepe-met-stretch.html
https://www.bottger.nl/brique-bubble-chiffon-crepe-met-stretch.html

The darker one is my favourite and shown in thos photo on the right:

Although I absolutely love the colour, I dislike the structure. I have the feeling the fabric should be smooth and this fabric is not. It is grainy and textured. Unfortunately this is impossible to photograph.

Another option is this brique crepe satin:
https://www.bottger.nl/briquekleurig-crepe-satijn.html
It is more on the orange side of brick/rust instead of red. One side is super shiny but the other is non shiny and pretty.

It is the fabric on the left:

I have ordered a bunch of swatches and will take better photos with daylight this weekend.

For now I am hoping to receive feedback on the first colours I shared to check if I am looking in the right direction or if I should move on to more reddish colours. And if the fabric of the tunic should be smooth or textured.

I'm going to go with 'no' for going redder. I like the lining colour and agree the darker one looks better than the more orange one. At least in these images. Smile

Thank you!

I was hoping to get some proper photos this weekend with natural light, but I didn't get around to do it.

I did order a few more swatches, so I am waiting for them to arrive.

may I ask what you think about the texture of the fabric? I never touched real silk crepe de chine, so I have no clue what kind of texture it has. I assume it is smooth? Does the fabric for this tunic need to be smooth as well?

My impression is that the tunic fabric is fairly smooth, but a little bit of texture shouldn't be a problem.

Well, I just so happen to have some silk crepe de chine lying around and it actually do have a bit of texture. Smile It's not heavily textured, not even close, but it does have a bit of texture to it unlike habotai silk, which is completely smooth. Smile

So a lightly textured fabric should work fine for this costume.

I have been working on this costume for a while now.

I found a fantastic fabric which way too expensive. Luckily I found a crepe de chine which way more affordable and the colour was extremely close to the expensive fabric.
The swatch of the expensive fabric on top of my fabric for this costume:

I also started the embroidery:

Colours are so different depending on the light:

I finished the first rosette. Perfect way to pass the time when we are not allowed to go outdoors due to Corona.

Yeah, it's great to see all the progress on these Cloud City Leias. Smile And you're right; now is the perfect time for large embroidery projects!

I am slowly continuing with this.

Did the first two fish scales yesterday:

My boyfriend and I have a bet. He is convinced I can finish the first panel by the end of April. I think that is overly ambitious Surprised

Thank you Lora! I am not doing much actually besides embroidery. I combine the embroidery with Netflix, movies and audiobooks. I just do not want to rush it and get sloppy. That is my one true fear Laughing

I have to admit though that these scales take me more time than anticipated

But I love the look of them.

I did some online shopping and found these lovely shoes. I will have to remove the little bow on the front but I think these work well for this costume.

I screwed up royally with the embroidery. I misread the colour chart and made the large circles of the flowers the wrong colour

They should be Dark Burgundy instead of Dark Brown.

I am devastated and not sure what to do now. The fabric is so fragile and delicate and I am worried if I cut it open to redo it, it will damage the fabric horribly.

I cannot believe I made such a huge mistake. I always check, check, double check, even triple check everything.....
