Hello there

I'm currently working on a long time dream-project of mine, Padmés olive gown from Episode III. I have read the standards and begun the hunt for the right fabrics. I have found some and would love to have some oppinions (and preferrably a judge's oppinion) on my fabric choices, before I go any further with the project.

Fabric for the dress:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VELVET-SILK-FABRIC-Luxury-Soft-Top-Quality-Price-Per-Yard-X-44-GREEN-OLIVE/133340205228?hash=item1f0bb210ac%3Ag%3AtgAAAOSw1nVeT3V-&fbclid=IwAR3rqH-TtdA4CXLa0LXVXH-WHbOdq0yLx4Fkm5Vc-WUVrTfumqgoE8DNako

OR

https://fabricdirect.com/acatalog/wholesale-venus-luxe-silk-velvet-fabric-olive-cerise-25-yard-bolt.html

This I am not sure whether or not they sell the fabric by the yard.

Last option:

https://www.fabric.com/buy/0537287/rayon-silk-blend-velvet-chartreuse?fbclid=IwAR1MHGpgCUSYLpzZ94UOz4Az7B0wfJDPbV6DYomDkEEOa5DirU5mcvBXmZ4

But unfortunately this is out of stock.

For the linen, I found this on spoonflower:

So... any thoughts? Mr. Green

Great that you are doing this! Can't wait to see it done. Very Happy

Well, the pictures of the first fabric aren't great, so not sure about the color. Maybe get a swatch before deciding. (That goes for all three, btw.).

The other two both looks like they are within the acceptable range of colors for this gown.

The spoonflower lining was originally designed specifically for this costume, because the lining can't be bought anywhere. (Special made for the movie). So that is pretty much the best option out there for a lining.

To get the purple backing of the silk-rayon velvet, you could use acid dyes to dye the silk backing, but not the rayon pile. But do test swatch dyeing first to be sure of your colors and how they will interact.

Have fun with the project!

Looks like that second on is whole sale only from that site, but that means some one else has to be reselling it somewhere, right? Maybe try throwing "Silk Velvet Fabric Olive/Cerise" into a few search engines and seeing what happens.

Good luck!

Hello all and thank you for the feedback Smile

Since it doesn't seem that the fabric out of stock is coming back in stock any time soon, and I don't need 25 yards of fabric on a roll, I have found another option concerning the dress fabric.

All I need is some feedback on the colour:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SILK-RAYON-VELVET-SOLID-FABRIC-45-W-COSTUMES-APPAREL-UPHOLSTERY-40COLOR-BY-YARD/183061755582?hash=item2a9f54b6be:m:mfy0WMiUEUbDptZPGXG-ekA

Thanks Mr. Green

That olive color looks like it could work, and the silk-rayon texture is photographic beautifully there. Are you able to order a swatch to see it in person first?

I think the color could work. Velvets are always a bit hard to photograph though.
