For those who wonder why the New Hope standards for the Rebel Fleet Trooper allow for rank badges, this is the reason why: The Star Wars Roleplaying game Rebellion Era guidebook has an image of a Rebel Fleet Trooper squad leader wearing a rank badge. From what I have seen, this is the only published source showing a rank badge on a Fleet Trooper.




There's also this image from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game – The Nightsister's Revenge on the A280 Blaster card, but since he's not dressed as a regular RFT, I don't think it counts. The rank is inconsistent with the established hierarchy, much like Cpt. Antilles (unless there's an interesting and unusual story behind this guy).
