Now that the previous posts are all cleared up and the images viewable, it's time to actually update this. I'll admit there's not much to update, 'cause we got sidetracked by Padmé, but I'll throw up what we have done previously.

The dried test sleeve:

I like the top transitions, but think the lower one is too harsh. So I expect to use both yellows, two oranges, and some pagoda red. Whether that will be done in four or five dye rounds are yet to be determined.

We also did the new sleeves, now with cotton voile underlining.

Voile pieces were done first, then attached to the velvet, before cutting and edging it all.

And the new sleeve(s):

Just look at that angle; it made me happy.

Well, we have four usable sleeves all done, except lining. Once we are done with Padmé I expect we will do the lining, too. Smile

That looks great! Good call lining it before dying.

We could probably get away with both, but we have agreed on lining before dyeing. Smile The top of the sleeve will be fully lined, but we won't continue the lining down to the tip. Instead we'll just make a pouch that can double as a hidden pocket inside the sleeve.

We are also 'done' with Padmé now (there's always upgrades), but I'm also moving, so I have no idea when this will be picked up again.

This has been an amazing tutorial and process you've shared. I'd love to see an update on this as I've been craving making a Flame Handmaiden for a couple years now.

Thank you! Very Happy I try to turn every wip into a tutorial to help others.

To be honest, my sis's pregnancy and infant has put this on hold. We both want to move on with it, but currently the energy isn't there due to her child and studies. I hope we can soon pick it up again, because I really want to get this costume done; it's such a beautiful costume. Amadalia

How large are the squares on your graph paper? I am looking into digitizing the pattern and to do that properly I need to know the size of the squares. P.S. once I do digitize the pattern I was going to post it here for free. not trying to profit off of your work or anything, just want to help myself and the community out.

Awesome! Very Happy I love to help people out and those sleeves are honestly the hardest part of the whole costume, so digitizing the pattern could surely be a help for many.

The larger squares (hard lines) are 2x2 cm, with the smaller squares (dotted lines) are 1x1 cm. I live in metric land. Wink

It should follow that this pattern, while loose, are definitely for people with thin to medium sized arms. A person with larger upper arms would need to broaden the pattern there to still have the sleeve loose enough around the arm. (I'm not sure how much as it has not been tested). The length can be adjusted easily be adding or removing a little from the top. (My sleeve set has extra fabric on top, because I'm 10 cm taller than my sister). But as long as the sleeve point hit the knee or just above the length is fine.

Finally this pattern is based on persons between 1.65-1.75 m tall, just to give people an idea of the range we work with.

I look forward to seeing a digitized version of this! Thank you for your offer to help out the community. Very Happy

Thanks so much! I should have them digitized by next weekend. I am going to be working on my own flame gown over the next few months and I hope to have a whole pattern for it
