SO i bit off more than i could chew with my first 2 WIPs so I thought I'd take some advice from my local base and work on a Generic Jedi. Is there a certain kind of fabric that has to be used or is preferred? I read through the costume reference list but I couldn't find if it said what fabric was required |

No, there’s no particular fabric that ‘has to’ be used. The goal is to get the costume to look like the costumes seen in the films. In the films, there are different fabrics used, so I believe it’s ok to find a fabric that you think looks the part and is available to you easily wherever you are. I think some use a ‘Crinkle Cotton Gauze’ while others use ‘Linens’ of some kind. Look at as many reference images as you can of Jedi and decide what sort of look you want, then go fabric shopping.
For example, I’m working on a Generic Jedi myself and the fabric I’m using for the outer tunic is some stuff I found at a local op shop (thrift store) and I have no idea what type of fabric it actually is. It’s a bit ‘nubby’ and quite light, so I’m lining it with an old satin bed sheet to give it some weight. It’s looking ok to me at the moment (even though it’s hand sewn and not that ‘professional’ looking), but I haven’t uploaded any photos of it so far, so not sure if it’ll be acceptable. The point being that it didn’t cost me much and even if it’s not ok, it’s good practice.
Hopefully someone with more Jedi experience will have suggestions for you.
Good luck. |
