Since someone is working on this one right now, I thought I would try to write up a standard for this dress. Material-wise, we don't know a lot about this dress, because it is animate, so I tried to leave room for the full range of people's creativity.

Character Description
Padmé Amidala was a courageous, hopeful leader, serving as Queen and then Senator of Naboo -- and was also handy with a blaster. Despite her ideals and all she did for the cause of peace, her secret, forbidden marriage to Jedi Anakin Skywalker would prove to have dire consequences for the galaxy. (Source: Star Wars Databank)

The logistics of this gown have always frustrated me. The placement on the sides and by the bust area are, in my mind, almost impossible to achieve without raising the sides or having the invisible straps that are listed as optional.
As more cartoon/comic costumes are being attempted, I wonder if there is any leeway that can be made for things like this. Just a thought though. It's a lovely outfit.

In further review of the photos, do we want to include the shading aspect of the dress? For example, this shot shows darker purple in some areas and not others.

I'm specifically referencing the area around the waist.

I think there's some wiggle-room in exactly where the down-turn hits in saying it lines up "under the armpit." That's a few inch range on most people.

As to the shading, in that particular photo the darker portions appear to be due to the really dramatic lighting. However, in other closer-up shots there does appear to be a bit of color-texture. That could be addressed by using a velour or velvet fabric, or something with a slight two-tone weave (purple on black or blue). Do you think the current wording on allowable fabric leaves room for that kind of creativity?

I guess it just depends on how close we want to match the references. Satin probably won't give the look but velvet might. Do we want to be that specific with the fabric options people can use?

Perhaps it depends by the pictures but it seems to me that the part on the shoulders of the dress is more swollen, as if it were padded.

I personally think a low ply velvet is the best bet, both for the drape and the color changing proporties. Smile But I'm open to seeing people trying different things.
Perhaps we could allow different types of fabric, but recommend the velvet?

Sleeveless purple gown made of medium to heavy-weight fabric. Fabric is matte but has a slight sheen (low-pile velvet recommended).

And yes, I agree the shoulders have some sort of support underneath to achieve that outline.

Perhaps an optional detail?
Shoulders have a defined pointed shape. (Small shoulder pads recommended).
