Although Blue Ridge Base was officially formed at the end of 2009, the story of North and South Carolina goes back as far as the formation of the Rebel Legion itself in the year 2000. In the beginning, North and South Carolina were inducted into the legion as part of a huge mid-south atlantic region called Southern Base, which consisted of states ranging from Virginia and the Carolinas going all the way across the south to Mississippi and Tennessee.

Over the years, some of these southern states formed their own bases until what was then called Freedom Base consisted only of both Virginias, both Carolinas and Washington, DC.

Freedom Base was a successful area of activity which brought many across the region the joy of Star Wars and the Carolinas were a big part of that, working with the Carolina Garrison of the 501st Legion along the way. In fact, many members were dual members of both legions.

Late in 2009, with many other bases getting smaller and smaller across the legion, Freedom Base was one of the largest bases still left. After much discussion, a majority of the members in North and South Carolina decided to form their own base to forge their own unique "Carolina" identity as many other bases had done.

Once the decision was made, a name was chosen to identify the region where the great Blue Ridge mountains pass through both states, hence, the base became known as Blue Ridge Base. It became official on January 1, 2010.

The logo of the base is an octagon. It is the only base which has that particular shape for their logo. The undulating Blue Ridge Mountains cross the logo in different shades of blue with a rising Rebel bird in the distance. Emanating from the rebel logo are eight X-Wings representing the iconic fighter from the original Star Wars trilogy...

Once the new base was formed, it was time to consider forming additional detachment units. The first to be formed was a KJO temple. Officially formed on February 11, 2010, the jedi of Blue Ridge chose the name Nexus Temple signifying a powerful conduit of the force located underneath the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Not to be outdone, several members of the base formed the next detachment unit for The Wretched Hive. This consisted of Kowakian Clan, officially granted formal status on March 10, 2010.

Some of the X-Wing pilots of the base decided to form their own squadron for the RLSC and on September 20, 2010, they were granted official status and became known as Graveyard Squadron.

Next up for base level unit detachments was an RLGS delegation. The Jendirian Valley delegation was granted formal status on October 21, 2013 and the name of the tramp freighter reminded the members of the beautiful rolling hills of the Blue Ridge.

The Fringe elements of the base finally organized themselves as well. On January 4, 2019, the base added a docking bay detachment called Mountain Mist Hangar Bay. The name evokes the eerie mists that emanate from the valleys of the Blue Ridge, providing a perfect place for smugglers and other fringe characters who want to disappear.

This is only the beginning of our goal of bringing movie quality Star Wars costumes to life in order to bring happiness and friendship to the public and to make children smile, because in the end, that's what it's really all about!
