Thoughts on Battle Handmaiden Undershirt

So, I was looking at the limited edition of Dressing a Galaxy tonight for one of my Delegation, and I am starting to wonder if we have all gotten the color wrong on the battle handmaiden's undershirt. I know the standard says salmon, and several of the digital images look like a brighter pink. The brighter pink also appeared on the doll. However, the image of the costume from the insert in Dressing a Galaxy looks much darker - somewhere between dark rose and wine red. Notably, it is clearly darker than the satin lining.

So, I am wondering: how should I advise my Delegation on this costume? Currently, the person I was helping wants to go with a darker color based on what she is seeing in the movie, and Dressing a Galaxy seems to support her. I don't want her to have to remake it though, if that salmon is what will be enforced.

Hello!

I saw your post in the Amidala Costuming FB group, so I decided to post here as well with other references. I've saved some photos that I found online of the costume at the exhibit (these are not to be confused with other photos circulating of a replica that was on display), and I'll post those here. Please note that these photos from the exhibit do not belong to me:

Additionally, I'd like to add that this was just another shot, but I screencapped it from the same source. It is noticeably redder than the other caps:

So, in fairness, I think it's quite hard to pinpoint the exact color, especially if we are going off the film because in several shots the color drastically changes color. However, I think it's important to keep in mind that this is also probably due to the filters used in the movie, but I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks for starting this discussion.

The detachment had this standards up for revision for several months earlier this year and it has already been submitted to the Costume Standards Committee for review, but since it had not been finialized and uploaded, I can still sneak in some changes.

If you were to give wording for a better color range, what would you say?

I would personally probably say in range of pink to wine, darker than the satin lining but lighter than the velvet. That seems like it would allow the full range of colors we seem to be seeing? I am not sure if that is sufficiently inclusive on the lighter end of things, though, since I would hate for anyone who is already in progress to have to rebuy or redye fabric.

How about "Undershirt is medium reddish pink to wine color. Shirt color is lighter than the color of the velvet" ? That way it could encompass what people have already been doing through the darker colors we see.

Since screen colors and the actual fabric colors are both accurate, it would be nice to have a range and accounts for both.

I have honestly long thought salmon sounded too light, but I'm not an expert on the costume, so I haven't fought the point.

Alrighty! The wording has been updated in the version submitted to the CSC, so we will hopefully see that reflected in the new standards that are uploaded later this summer.

Does anyone happen to have the original source for those exhibit photos from Europe of the sleeves? We can't use them without permission from the photographers, but they are the best sleeve photos I have seen anywhere.

Curious as to what fabric you ended up going with for this? I have all the material for this costume except that and I am at a loss as to what to get. Some say cotton, some say knit.
