I would like to start the standard discussion for this costume from "Star Wars Adventures #4". Leia is wearing a Naboo delegate ensemble. I have gone over everything I have compiled so far and have followed the new standard format and listed what I have thus far below. Any comments or suggestions are welcome on this!

Standard name: Leia Organa - Naboo Delegate
Primary Detachment : Royalty/Senatorial
Submission Date: TBD
Existing Standard URL: NONE

Required Items:

COAT

Required Details:
A red/coral colored coat that hits at the ankles.

Coat has a front design that is black and comes from the center side seams just under the armpits and extends to within 3 inches of the edges of the front of the coat. Yellow piping surrounds the entirety of the design.

Coat has a front yoke that ends just above the breastbone and has yellow piping.

Coat has black sleeves. Each sleeve has a center piping detail that extends down to the cuff. There is another line of yellow piping that circles to the inside of the body and stops at the underside of the wrists. At the end of the piping is a yellow circle. Approximately 3 inches down from the top of the sleeve are two circles. The upper circle is slightly larger than the lower circle. The are centered around the piping on the sleeve.

The back of the coat has a lower black design that is lined with yellow piping and comes around to the front to connect with the front design.

The back of the collar has a black section and a red/coral section that has yellow piping between. The piping extends down from the sides of the collar and continues to the shoulders of the jacket and continues down the sleeves.
The front of the collar is black and closes in a V at the center. No visible closures.

At the base of the collar is a turquoise brooch. The brooch extends to the end of the front yoke of the coat.

The coat closes approximately 2 inches under the bottom of the brooch and then flares out to the bottom with no visible closures.

I'll need to take a closer look at the comic first, but I think this could be both an interesting and tricky standard to make.

One thing that's for certain is that it's drawn with shoulder pads; only way to get that shoulder profile and it's present in every reference you've posted. Very 80's. Wink

I know my verbiage could be better so any suggestions you may have are welcome! Very Happy

This is a great start. I probably won't have a chance to give it a detailed once-over until after Celebration, but I really appreciate you getting this started and collecting all of the images.

I honestly haven't had a change to take a closer look due to changes in my daily routine, but I haven't forgotten it!

I'm still catching up with our web site reformatting, but in there, I did manage to get a gallery together of these images with the speech bubbles cleaned out: http://www.senate.rebellegion.com/leia-organa-adventures-comic-naboo-delegate/

This is a great start, and thank you so much for doing the legwork of drafting this! I want to look in closer detail later, but I have some initial thoughts for now:

1. Coat description: since there is no side seam illustrated, I worry about describing the bolero section in reference to the side seam. I am still thinking about alternative ways to word this that don't require a seam which some folks could reasonably choose to omit, and will post a wording when I think of one. There is also a bit of an issue with images conflicting about which parts of the back are red and which are black, but that is something else that needs more consideration to articulate properly. I also agree with previous comments that shoulder pads should be required.

2. Piping: this is a tiny thing and admittedly nitpicky, but could we say "edged" or "trimmed in gold piping instead of "lined"? I am worried that some folks might interpret the current wording as the garment itself needing to be lined.

3. Under dress: while no visible seams are shown, that isn't actually a realistic construction when it comes to making this out of fabric. I would recommend making the lack of seams optional, and allowing side seams at least on the dress, and possible even a waist seam to get that fullness.

4. Boots: I agree with the previous comment that the boot appears to come to a gentle point in front. That could make boots a lot harder to source, though. Could that be made an optional detail, since the skirt will pretty much always cover it while trooping?

5. Gloves: I don't see based on this comic why gloves should be leagher or leather-like. If anything, they seem to match the coat, which makes fabric most likely. Maybe the standard can allow leather or fabric?

6. Broach: perhaps it's just my device, but that broach looks much more aqua than turquoise. Could we say aqua or turquoise for the color?

7. Hair: the comic shows a single curled tendril in front of each ear, rather than several. It might be worth adjusting the wording accordingly.

8. Head dress: it seems like it might be worthwhile specifying that the stones on the headdress should match the broach.

That's everything I've spotted for now. Will take a closer look later. Thank you again for getting the ball rolling on this!

Great comments!

I agree we should change it to 'trimmed in gold piping' instead of lined to avoid confusion.
We will want to be as accurate as possible and keep it as simple as possible. Uncertain or hardly seen details should be optional. Smile

I wish I could take a closer look at it, but my commute means I'm barely home now, and the train internet hasn't worked in 1½ month. It's still on my list, just incredibly hard to find time for.
