I'm back and actually determined to make Jyn's Jedha outfit! This will be the first time I make a costume mostly from scratch so I'm a little nervous, but rebellions (and vests with obscene amounts of topstitching) are built on hope, so here it goes.

I'm working with the Simplicity Jyn pattern as a base. I've done a lot of research on the RPF forums and compiled a great deal of information/patterns/sketches of how the costume should look as compared to the definitely not screen accurate pattern (found here: https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-pattern-8480-misses-costumes/S8480.html). From what I can tell, I'll need to:

    * add the pintucks and detailing to the pants
    * modify the sleeves of the blouse so that they're 3/4 length
    * add the collar and yoke to the blouse
    * adding All The Details to the vest
    * remove the striping from the sleeves

If I'm missing any major details, please let me know!

So far, this is what I have sourced for the costume:

That brings me to the scarf and the jacket. The scarf in and of itself seems easy to make and the Stardust Sisters group on Facebook has plenty of tutorials on how to make it. However, the jacket seems a little harder. I have a couple patterns from RPF but are there any base patterns that other Jyns have used that work well or can be modified?

I'll definitely be posting updates on how best to modify the Simplicity pattern the more I work on it, since it could be a good base pattern for other Jyns!

Hey Kate!

This is the pattern I used for my coat, Burda Young 7018 ; variant B, and a small write up of how I modified it. However, I did make and get approved with this jacket prior to the BTS images of Felicity without the vest, so it does not have the action pleats on the back. It is a fairly easy pattern to work with, and all the seams are correct. You just need to alter the sleeves to add another seam and split the middle for the bloodstripe pattern.

If I remember correctly, said BTS image is in the Stardust Sister's collection of the coat images. However, the standards does not list the action pleat as being necessary, as it is on Cassian's.

Quote:
1. Jacket

a. Dull sage green, blue-green, or teal-gray heavy cotton jacket. Jacket is visible below the bottom of the vest but does not reach past top of hips. Sleeves reach just to the wrist and do not cover the gloves.

b. Jacket has tan/cream/yellow printed, suede, or embroidered bar detail on the sleeves.

c. Jacket has a mandarin collar.

This is one of the suggested patterns for thejacket: https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/women/dresses/simplicity-pattern-8174-misses-lined-jacket-and-knit-dress-from-mimi-g-style/?fbclid=IwAR1GcQmVzafDEsVWNR_HNCsoWNgiEWsJplrQbtPYRz8zWL33RAf1axRlGzc suggested on the stardust group that is. I have it, I like the look of it and I have used it as a base for adding the back shoulder gussets to other things. But I haven't made the jacket myself yet because it keeps getting pushed down the project que... Someday!

I know a Jyn who made her vest with this pattern. I just went back and looked up what she said about the major changes she noted would need to be made:

- needs a collar
- waistband needs to be elastic
- need to add interior facings
- add two inches in length
- pockets are too small
- add an inch to widths of the fronts

For the pockets, to get the right size, you could use the RPF Vest Pattern. It's in the Files section of the Stardust Sisters group.
