Quick update:

Ran into issues with the painting. Using acrylics and they are not adhering to the primer. Working through it and I think I finally have the dark blue color for the helmet. Pics soon.

If they're not sticking to the primer, try painting over the primer with another spray paint first, then paint over the spray paint. Just don't use model kit spray paint, that doesn't work well with acrylics (or with the type of spray paint you can get at Home Depot and such). I haven't had any problems getting acrylics to stick to spray paint.

When I paint my helmets I go primer (or black paint + primer) -> flat/gloss black spray paint (if I didn't use black paint + primer) -> silver spray paint -> white or blossom white spray paint -> acrylics -> gloss or semi-gloss clear coat -> weathering with acrylics -> matte/flat clear coat. I used the silver so I can chip up the layers of paint over it and have the silver showing through, and the black is used under the silver because it usually makes it look more like metal.

Hi all, been kinda slow going....

Life got in the way of my progress, but I have been chugging away. I pre painted the insides of the crests, and glued them in. Didn't go exactly as planned as there is a gap that I need to fill in that makes that side look longer than it should be.

But I have been working with a modeler on the visor:

Ignore the crappy print.... and the size.....and the top part shape....but it is getting close to the original.

Slow going for the time being.

Quick update:

Closing in on the final design of the visor.

I found some additional pictures online from Hasbro black series helmets that I guess got discontinued as they are no longer being made . It confirms my suspicions that the lego helmet coloring is not correct, but the design is. I thought it was strange to be all black. This one is the dark blue and has all the marks of being the same design.

Anyone know anything about this series of helmets or have other pictures?

There are various Black Series die-cast helmets but unfortunately the U-wing pilot helmet never came out, it got scrapped at some point. Which was very disappointing, I wanted to pick up the set

Still working on finishing the visor. Creating one that will use the original mounts and slide parts so it can be raised up and down. Not much but a bit.

My house is currently empty as we work through leak repairs so I am not able to do anything for at least another few weeks. But I am pretty confident in the paint scheme and colors so should finish the painting once I can actually get to my equipment:)

Having to wait to work on props is always so frustrating. Razz
