Sorry, I've been asking questions all over the forums. I'm taking some advice to start a build thread. Here goes:

TFA VS. TLJ

OK, I was initially thinking of doing a TFA Officer. Then I realized that TLJ Officers had blasters which would make trooping more fun. So, I think I'm going to go with TLJ.

Coat: I'm having it made. I don't sew

Pants: Can I go "store bought" for the pants?

Boots: Crowprops Poe boots (black) on order. No idea how long it will take. They aren't answering my emails.

Rank Bar: Should be easy

Belt and holster: I'll probably have that made too

Blaster: I have the Poe Nerf blaster. Is it too big for approval? Do I need to get one 3D printed thats smaller?

Do you have 360 reference photos for your tailor? I can grab some for you next week if you need them.

Pants: Can I go "store bought" for the pants?
You should be able to, yes.

Did you check the reference images to make sure black boots are worn in TLJ? Some of the mix and match options were tightened up a bit.

Rank Bar: Should be easy

Belt and holster: I'll probably have that made too

Have you looked at the RAID forums to see if this has already been discussed?

Yeah, the boots are already ordered. I think I'll stick to the TFA officer to play it safe.

Be good to check on the Nerf guns........in all fairness there are so many out there from different vendors you can have printed, it might be better to get a print done. Personally I think there is detail missing...I've asked the pilots and am waiting to hear back.

Black boots, I've not seen any in the refs for TLJ......Crow props takes a while so you could prob get them to change to brown. I would facebook them....or post on their facebook wall, they usually reply then.

Kristina are we keeping the black for TFA? Or is it worth a revison?I can edit my boots post to reflect.

I think because the boots are weathered to blackish, it's fine. We were trying to give people some wiggle room where it made sense and didn't impact the overall appearance.

On the blasters, you found a reference showing the TLJ ones were slightly different from the TFA ones, right? The pilot forums have this really nice tutorial on the blasters that includes both links to the 3-d print files and finishing techniques.

http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=73422

I'm not sure anyone had modeled the TLJ version yet, but the differences are subtle enough that I think they could be used interchangeably. I know the RFT's are able to use ANH or ESB blasters.

The Nerf blasters do seem a bit large, but it looks like the troopers allow for a 10% difference in size? Here's one that has been modded, and it does look pretty big in her hand comparatively. What do you all think?

I found a couple of instances where it looks like officers are wearing blasters in TFA, so we may want to add them as optional to that standard when it is updated.

I think the guide rail needs to come off the top on the nerf conversion, otherwise it does look like a Nerf.

Like I said though you can get cheap 3D prints, so honestly I would opt for one of those.

This is the comparision, top is TLJ, bottom is TFA (thanks to Geoff for his help with these)

That's my Nerf blaster mod, and yep - the Nerf blaster is larger than it should be. Since I use my blaster for a Twi'lek OC and wasn't going for Legion approval, I went with the Nerf option because it was available and I like that I can make PEW PEW noises with it.

Not sure if it would pass for Legion approval, so I'd recommend just finishing a 3D print.
