| I'm wondering what size of belt would be good for me as an RFT simply because my waist is measured at 51 inches. I'm also new to this so anything helps |

My waist is 127cm (50 inches). I bought a 150cm (59 inches) belt for my RFT and shortened it to the right size by cutting the excess leather off.

Of course, you may ask.  Ask any question about the costume that is on your mind. I will try to help you.
I bought the 5cm (2 inches) wide pre-dyed leather strap from a German shop on eBay. The color is called cognac. The belt buckle is a "Rectangle Buckle Blank 2" (5.1 cm)" from tandy leather that I bought from an Irish shop on eBay. Since I live in Germany I try to buy from German or EU sources.
Since you are located in the USA you can buy the buckle directly from tandyleather.com.

I did not see any pre-dyed belt straps in the correct color on tandyleather.com. You might have to buy a colorless strap and dye it yourself. Perhaps you can find a belt strap in the color canyon or range tan on ebay.com.
