Mission:EternalCon Comic and Pop Culture Convention at Nassau Coliseum, Long Island
Date: 6/16/2018 - 6/17/2018
Time: 10am to 5:00pm, both days

Mission Objective: Have a table set-up with props, information, and children activity books.

Attendees: Mike D (GokaiRed), Candace (Nyx - Table Duty), Tony (TriumphFX), Pat (Delpa Gival), John T (TI Tro), John G (Tibberon25), Johnny (Phoenix1914), Shane (Daddy Solo - Table Duty), John F (Ferrara), Bobby (darthbane)

EternalCon is one of Long Island’s largest conventions. We have attended since the con originally started. This year, there are quite a few negative remarks I would like to point out:

1.Scheduling: The con was scheduled for father’s day weekend. With another smaller con in brooklyn as well the same weekend, i felt that it dramatically affected attendance.

2.Treatment: As usual we were given our table space. Smaller than promised. We were also promised 12 passes and only given 5. We were forced to improvise to get members inside.

3.Set-up: we came early Friday to set up. Even by afternoon, no one could confidently tell us where we were even supposed to set up even though there was supposedly a floor map. Come saturday, a lady stating that she worked for the con runner and had set up the map said we were in the wrong spot. We advised her that we set up yesterday and that we were told to go here. Later than same day, another person who also worked for the con said something similar. From my understanding, this is once again not an isolated incident.

4.Bullying by con-runner: we have always brought our A-game for this con as it is a great way to reach prospective new members. However this year the Con runner initially wanted to hold table space and passes hostage for doing events specific to the con in direct violation of legion charter. The only reason things worked out was because we were booked for another con and advised him we were perfectly happy not attending after their treatment of all of us at WinterCon and previous years.

5.Communication: communication from the con runners is as poor as it has always been. Each year we ask the same questions and we often do not hear back until the week of the con. Even then, these answers are never honored by the con runner.

6.Show floor set-up: the main stage literally sits in the middle of the show floor making it difficult to talk to people due to the noise level. For a venue as large as the Coliseum, more specific space could have been used for that.

The only positive was the decent foot traffic of people attending the con. Again, lower than previous years. I could tell the difference in general atmosphere as far fewer people, ease to get inside, few people carrying large amounts of purchases. Also, I saw a distinct lack of cosplayers that would normally be at this con.

Currently up in the air if we decide to return next year.
