Hello everyone!

My name is Emily, from Pittsburgh PA, and I am staring the preparations on my Leia costume! I think I have a pretty good understanding of what I need to do, and have collected lots of patterns and research images, but I have a couple elusive questions before I proceed:

1. Would following this wig tutorial be approved?

2. What do you guys use to cut her aluminum belt plates? What grit of sandpaper do you use? What do you use to connect the buttons, to the plates, and then all that to the belt?

3. Also related to the belt, have you used multiple layers of vinyl or have you found that one think layer works? I really want to avoid leather.

4. What is your preferred method for pleating the hood when attaching it to the neck? Do you hand gather as you sew or do you presew the pleats with a running stitch?

Hello Emily and welcome to our forum.

Firstly, I could not watch the video so can't say anything about that.

I do know most who use vinyl use two layers and some also sandwiched some interfacing in between the layers for extra support and stiffness. Vinyl is definitely an option, too, so you don't have to use leather.

For the pleats, I'd pre-gather them before attaching the hood and sewing it on.
