Hello,

I have one generic Jedi "Librarian" costume done, but what I really want is a pretty purple "princess" dress. When I saw the picture of Motee's senate gown in a friend's book I was hooked. http://www.padawansguide.com/handmaiden/motee_promo1.jpg

With this dress, because it will be expensive, I am trying to balance a good replica with practicality. Hence, my first two questions...

1. CRL says "wide, long fanned train in the back", but does it have to be as big as the original? Gorgeous, but not very practical for trooping... http://www.padawansguide.com/handmaiden/motee_chron3.jpg

Also, "Low-heeled coordinating tailored pumps or flats." Yea for flats! Thank you!!!! Coordinating... Does this mean I can wear black or do I need to match purples? I am really hoping that coordinating includes the color black.

Thanks so much! Currently I am adjusting patterns, and I am hoping to get some pics of the underdress mock-up in the next few weeks.

Hello. Smile

Purple or black flats should both be fine as long as they match.
But I'm afraid you will need the impractical train on the gown. Sorry. If you make it much smaller it won't look the same as it does in the references.

Thank you for the answers Lora. I was pretty sure that would be the answer for the train, but it didn’t hurt to ask. And now I can start looking for shoes so I know where to hem the dress.

Spring Break is in two weeks. Planning on having pics for the mock dress then.

Underskirt prototype. Thought I had a back picture, but I didn't take one, so I'll post that later. Please ignore the too short sleeve, I forgot how to measure apparently. I think the shoulders are too poofy, trying to fix that. Any other comments?

The christmas fabric was $2.50 a yard, so all my prototypes are rocking' that pattern for now.

Thank you!

It looks like you are off to a great start.

I'm a huge fan of your fabric. Wink

Ooh, I like this gown, so I hope it will go well for you. Smile I know it has an impressive train in the back, which you sadly doesn't see much in the movie.
