I'd really like to see this standard expanded. It's basically correct, but more detail would be helpful. I'll get some screenshots. Now would be the time to correct anything we feel is missing.

Opinions? This is what we have published:

1. Reddish-brown Ackbar mask
2. Reddish-brown Ackbar hands
3. White jumpsuit (or shirt and pants) with yellow stripe on each side
4. Plain white shoes
5. Cream-colored vest with round collar
6. Rank insignia
7. Cream-colored belt with boxes/pouches

Two things:

1: the 2 belt boxes on the hips are a different shape, basically a round piece attached to a rectangle piece with a triangular part on top. Screen shots show it better

2: The vest doesn't appear to be closed on the sides. Although I believe it probably wears better if it did. People who wear the costume could give good advice on this.

I believe that the vest is not closed when the puppeteer is operating the facial animatronics in some scenes, but is closed when Ackbar is standing.

If you look at this picture, while he is standing, the armhole appears to be closed in the middle, with a side seam running down to the waist ridge above the belt line:

There is a deep armhole and a slit at the bottom, but it appears to be connected in the middle.

However, these two photos which were taken while the puppeteer was operating close-up animatronics appear to have open sides for easy access:

I would recommend against making a requirement to leave the sides open just for practical reasons as well. Since Ackbar's hands are flippers and the fingers not articulated for our costumes, we can't adjust the tunic if it gets out of place while in costume. Our fingers do not actually function. So, it is helpful to have the sides stitched up to keep it from gapping too much.

I put a link up in the base as I know we have a few cleared ackbars. Perhaps some of the other base Detatchment leaders could do the same.

I have a library of screenshots for him here:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4xsXvnXAr7LRWpLWmhzaXdYTnc

The thumbnails don't always give a good idea of what's in the picture, and I haven't had time to go through and crop/highlight details yet, so click through if you have time.

To answer a couple questions people had about the costume. While wearing the costume I was able to talk extensively to Tim Rose at celebration about the costume, which was amazing!!!

1) no the jumpsuit fabric is not shiny. It's a cotton fabric similar to the jumpsuits the original pilots wore only white. No visible pockets though.

2) Costume has a continuous 1" yellow stripe that extends from bottom of leg and stops at armpit.

3) Belt has 3 identical boxes in front but the two sides are almost keyhole shaped with a round and rectangular section joined together. On the top of the rectangular section are what appears to be control buttons but there's not really good pictures of what it exactly looks like. Belt has no visible clasps or buckles.

4) The tunic is an off white/beige/tannish color but does not clasp on the sides! The belt actually holds the open sides against the body. The tunic also has a continuous round collar around the neck with no sign of connector. The tunic does have a small seam on the back that runs to about mid shoulder blade. The seem was used to get the tunic on and off from over the head.

5) Shoes are white patent leather with no buckles or laces. In the movie the soles are white but in many of the official photos the soles are black. They're basically slip on loafers haha.

It's a very fun costume to wear even though it's hot and a little claustrophobic. However if you don't want every other person wanting you to say, "it's a trap" then stay far away from it. Most I've had was saying it 255 times in a 5 hour stretch at comic-con.

PROPOSED:

1. Screen accurate mask and hands. Mask should not have a visible opening.

2. White matte finish cotton or nylon jumpsuit
- Fabric should be heavy enough to be opaque.
- There is a one inch wide dark yellow stripe on the side which extends from the lower edge of the pant leg to the armpit.
- Sleeves are approximately three-quarter length and should cover the edges of the prosthetic hands.

- Pant legs should reach the tops of the shoes.

3. Plain white leather Chelsea style boots (ankle high) without visible closures.

4. Cream or light tan sleeveless vest.
- Fabric has a fuzzy textured finish, felted wool is preferred.
- Vest is open on the sides, with unfinished armholes, is and worn under the belt. Sides may be tacked underneath the belt for ease of wearing if desired.

- Vest has a continuous round rolled collar
- Vest may have an optional, small opening in the back if needed, not to exceed mid shoulder blade in length. Invisible zipper or hidden Velcro closure should be used.

5. Belt
- Cream colored leather belt approximately two inches wide with a hidden closure.
- Three rectangular belt boxes worn in front, screen accurate.

- Two additional belt boxes, worn one on each hip, shaped as shown on screen

NEED A REFERENCE PHOTO

6. Screen accurate, two piece rank badge worn on the left side of the chest.

According to "Star Wars Costumes":

1. The vest is made of felt, which seems right since the armholes are unfinished.

2. The jumpsuit is nylon, although I wouldn't have a problem with accepting cotton. Nylon is hot and usually thin, and we don't want to see Ackar's underwear...

3. The shoes are ankle high, stormtrooper style boots.

Looks good, Marie! Just two quick things:

1. On the boots, I think saying that they are Chelsea style boots may be helpful.

2. As far as the vest material goes, I believe the book means felted wool. I would avoid saying "felt" on it's own because people will likely interpret that as craft felt which is really, really different.

I think the best references photos one can get is on the Complete Saga bluray. You get a lot of zoom in on some of the detail. it helped me get the belt and rank insignia right.

I get most photos from here: https://starwarsscreencaps.com/

We could use a clear shot of the belt boxes.
