Character/Costume Description
Luminara from Ep 2, with a black
silk skirt of 5,782 pintuck seams. (I
made this all myself.) There are 72
yards of hand-sewn ruffle in three
tiers, three rows in each tier also on
the skirt. The skirt is 9 yards of
black silk. The cloak is 16 yards of
hand-dyed silk velvet devore, and
the hat is hand-sculpted wireframe
with brown wool on top, and trim.
The broach is hand-sculpted, the
shirt is black silk with an extra black
placket sewn on the front against
the bias, with two braided cords on
either side. The lightsaber is
modeled by Don Close (the only
piece I didn't make myself). It is
functional with a green blade. The
belt is a single piece of leather,
tooled with two lines, dyed to match,
with wraparound, and two belt
buckles sculpted an cast out of
coldstone and painted. The
vanbraces and tabard are leather,
tooled and dyed and painted by me.
The contacts are prescription $400
lenses, painted to match. The boots
are black Ariat riding boots. The
facepaint in olive green with bronze
highlights is Ben Nye makeup, and
the chin tattoos are hand drawn on
my chin, by me, every time I wear
it. I had feedback from Mary Oyaya
on this and she was a huge help.
The lighting for the straight-on shots
was overbright so you can see the
stitching detail - I looked more
green in the convention indoor
lighting. Luminara never removes
her robe, so I didn't either.
Update: New shirt with more
wrinkles, fixed the trim all the way
around on the hat. Have both Lum's
actual saber and the Adi Ki Mundi
ThinkGeek saber on this, as the
latter is lighter and can "blade up" at
events.
The entire fabric of the hat/hood has
trim but occasionally flaps around in
reverse in deep folds, and then you
see the backside with the trim on
the other side. This happens when it
stacks up in the front. I assure you,
there is trim all the way around.
(handsewn, no less)
